Gov. Christie Names City Resident to State Board on Worker Safety

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Governor Chris Christie's office announced on September 9 that New Brunswick resident Joyce Sagi has been appointed as the public representative for the Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health (PEOSH) Advisory Board.

Sagi’s appointment was part of a series of direct appointments made by Governor Christie last week to positions on various boards and commissions throughout New Jersey.

New Brunswick Contingent Heads to NYC Climate March Where Large Crowd is Expected

NEW YORK, NY–In what is expected to be the largest demonstration of its kind ever, upwards of 100,000 people are expected to participate in a New York City march calling for action to combat climate change, including a sizable contingent from New Brunswick.

The march begins at Columbus Circle at 11:30 am, and comes just two days before a UN meeting called by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon  to address climate change.

Feminist Icon Who Went to Rutgers Addresses Rape Culture in Talk at Alma Mater

NEW BRUNSWICK—Rutgers aluma and self-proclaimed “professional feminist” Jessica Valenti visited her alma mater and delivered a lecture on rape culture and positive sexuality Thursday September 17.

Valenti, who was named one of the Guardian’s 100 Most Inspiring Women and founded the popular news website Feministing.com,  spoke to a room full of Rutgers students, alumni, and New Brunswick community members in the Douglass Student Center.

NJ Health Department Report: Over 2,000 People Living With AIDS or HIV in Middlesex County

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The rates of HIV and AIDS in both New Brunswick and Middlesex County have steadily declined, according to an annual report by the New Jersey Department of Health.

The report stated that, between 1990 and 2013, an estimated 3,200 Middlesex County residents had been diagnosed with AIDS, and an additional 1,064 residents had been diagnosed as having HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Of those, 2,215 passed away, leaving 2,098 residents who live with one of the ailments today, according to the report.

Musician Remembers His Dad James Brown and Growing Up in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Daryl Brown, a musician, producer, artist, and son of the late James Brown met with fans and members of the press yesterday evening at Delta's restaraunt on Dennis Street.

Brown released his new book, "My Father the Godfather," in July 2014. During a two-month promotional tour, Brown made sure to stop by his original hometown to sign books and take pictures at the Dennis Street restaraunt and bar.

Feds Charge NB Couple With Running Eight Brothels, Two in Hub City

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A New Brunswick couple was arrested on September 18 for harboring undocumented immigrants and employing them in brothels located throughout New Jersey, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

Juan Fredy Hernandez-Zozaya, 36, and his wife, Elizabeth Rojas Rojas, 33, are being charged with harboring aliens for the purpose of prostitution, and harboring aliens for the purpose of financial gain.
