New Brunswick High School Soccer Teams Gear Up For 2014 Season

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Shouts of “Be on your toes!” and “Quality over quantity!” could be heard from the soccer fields at New Brunswick High School on Saturday, August 16, as both the boys and girls soccer teams were working hard to prepare for the upcoming season.

The teams practiced ball control drills, quick touch passes to teammates, and making accurate crosses and finishing at the net. With new head coaches for both teams, the Zebras boys and girls soccer teams are looking to take some big steps forward this season.

Governor Christie Visits Mexico, Citing Strong Economic Ties to NJ

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Governor Chris Christie will be traveling to Mexico today and spending a total of three days south of the border this week, according to his public schedule.

Christie and his delegation of New Jersey leaders will meet with Mexican business leaders with the goal of promoting “increased trade, economic growth, job creation and higher education in both New Jersey and Mexico.”

Esperanza Residents Conduct First Neighborhood Litter Cleanup

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A group of about 20 residents gathered at Joyce Kilmer Park on Saturday to complete the first of several litter cleanups organized by the Esperanza Neighborhood Project.

The group, which included a number of children, filled up bags with trash and recycling, as well as swept up leaves and other debris from streets and sidewalks in and around Livingston Avenue.

“The idea is to make New Brunswick more clean,” said Flor Cruz, one of the block captains for the clean-up.

10th Annual Jimmy D 5K Races Up and Down Joyce Kilmer Avenue For Final Time

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — It never rained once during any of the ten annual 5K road races organized to celebrate the life of James D'heron, a Deputy Fire Chief who was killed in the line of duty after saving the lives of 15 people in 2004.

His family says it's proof that the deceased local hero, "Jimmy D," was watching over each of the events, which have raised tens of thousands of dollars for a charity that helps young burn victims.

Without Proper Approvals, NBPA Starts Selling Spots in Bucculeuch Park For RU Football Gamedays

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Without proper approvals, the New Brunswick Parking Authority is already selling Rutgers football fans $23 gameday parking spots in Buccleuch Park, the city's largest park.

Not only has the City Council not approved the deal, but the decision to start charging for parking there may be a risky one, due to a deed restriction that says the city "shall forfeit all rights to [Buccleuch Park]" if the premises are ever diverted towards any use besides a public park.
