After Sandy Debacle, NJTransit Gets Federal Funds to Store Trains in New Brunswick During Future Storms

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Almost two years after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East Coast, $183.5 million in federal funding has been allocated to create a safer place to protect the state's fleet of passenger trains during severe weather events.

Following Sandy, NJ Transit came under fire for its slapdash preparation of the storm.  Trains were left in low-lying areas, such in the 72-acre Meadowlands Maintanence Complex and the Hoboken rail yard.

Colorful Clothesline Display Draws Attention to Gender-Based Violence at Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ— The Office of Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance (VPVA) at Rutgers University held their 16th annual Clothesline Project on September 18 at Voorhees Mall on College Avenue.

In 1998, the project began with the goal of providing an outlet for survivors of assault to share their experiences, and to reach survivors that did not want to talk to family, friends, or professionals.

Johnson & Johnson Seeks Buyer For Cordis Medical Device Unit

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Johnson & Johnson (J&J), the Hub City-based multinational pharmaceutical company is seeking a buyer for its Bridgewater-based Cordis medical device unit.

Cordis employes 5,000 people and makes vascular medical devices and is said to have created the market for drug-coated heart stents. The global market for cardiac stents is roughly $5 billion. But according to published reports, Cordis is struggling.

Wayans Brothers Perform For Rutgers Students at State Theatre

NEW BRUNSWICK—The Rutgers University Programming Association (RUPA) brought entertainers Shawn and Marlon Wayans to the city's historic State Theatre on Friday September 19 for a special performance.

Marketed as the "Knights of Comedy" Show, RUPA handpicked the Wayans Brothers from a long list of performers provided by Concert Ideas, according to Maria Bayas, RUPA Director in Comedy and Media.

Concert Ideas is “the nation’s largest and most experienced college booking agency,” according to their website.

Zebras Football Team Wins First Game Under New Head Coach

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The future is looking brighter than usual for New Brunswick High School's football team.

On Friday, September 19, the Zebras defeated the South Plainfield High School Tigers 21-19 in front of a highly energetic home crowd at Memorial Stadium in New Brunswick.

The win was New Brunswick's first regular season victory since 2012.

The Zebras took command early as their defense shut down the Tigers offense and kept South Plainfield scoreless thoroughout the first half of the game.
