New Rutgers Coach Will Be Paid Almost Twice as Much as Predecessor

PISCATAWAY, NJ–Rutgers’ weeklong search for a new football coach has come to an end, with the school hiring Ohio State University's co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash to be the team’s 30th head coach.

Ash has served as Ohio State’s co-defensive coordinator for the past two seasons, and won a national championship with the Buckeyes last year.

Ash will also make almost twice as much as Kyle Flood, the coach who was fired just eight days earlier.

City Council Votes to Spend Nearly $3,000 on 10 Chairs for NBPD Conference Room

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—At the New Brunswick City Council meeting on December 2, the Council approved the purchase of ten chairs for the New Brunswick Police department (NBPD), amounting to a total of $2,976.60.

According to officials, the $297 chairs were purchased through a "state contract," after a public bidding process.

"State contract means that the state went out to bid for that item, and we can buy the items from them," said Business Administrator Thomas Loughlin III.

Local Band Asks, “Won’t You Take Me to Funky Town?”

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rob Romano asked to meet us at Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts, where he’s a senior majoring in printmaking.

Our meeting pulled Romano away from a performance art piece that had involved a man walking around pots and pans. It's a Mason Gross thing.

Romano is the frontman of Professor Caveman, a band popular in New Brunswick’s basement scene.

Comedy Shows Abound This December in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—This month, comedy is on full display in the Hub City with several shows in local venues throughout December.

The New Brunswick comedy scene is talent rich. Many artists travel each week to show off their skill sets, however this month has many shows closer to home.

December is also  a great time to see high-level comedy in the Hub City at an affordable price point, with at least four shows with a cover charge of $10 or less.

Hospital Saint Peter’s Reconocido por su Excelencia en la Educación de Diabetes

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ— El Hospital Universitario de Saint Peter's ha sido reconocido por su excelencia en la educación de la diabetes, según un comunicado de prensa emitido por el hospital.

Dicho hospital ha sido galardonado con el "prestigioso" Certificado de Reconocimiento de Educación de la Asociación Americana de la Diabetes por la calidad de un programa de educación para el auto-manejo de la diabetes.

El reconocimiento tiene una duración de cuatro años.

Almost 10,000 Runners Participate in 13th Annual Big Chill 5k

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The 13th Annual Big Chill, a charity 5k run/walk hosted by Rutgers Recreation, continues to be one of the most popular events of its kind in the state.

The December 5 race had 9,600 runners registered in total, an 8% increase over last year's race, according to data from CompuScore, a race scoring and timing outfit.

The race is unique. There is no entry fee, but participants are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy to be given as holiday gifts to local children.

Stellar Season For Rutgers Women’s Soccer Team Ends in NCAA Semifinals

CARY, NC—An historic season for Rutgers’ women’s soccer program came to an end on Friday, as the Scarlet Knights fell 2-0 to Penn State in the NCAA semifinals.

Rutgers’ first ever trip to the Final Four resulted in a matchup against Big Ten rival Penn State, the third meeting of the teams this season.

The December 4 matchup was a battle of two teams ranked in the NSCAA Coaches’ Poll top ten. In the most recent rankings, Penn State was ranked sixth in the nation, with the Scarlet Knights ranked ninth.
