9th Annual South Asian Theater Festival Staged at Crossroads

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—After the late August void, the area’s theater season is now in full swing.

On Saturday September 6, New Brunswick's Crossroads Theatre hosted the 9th annual South Asian Theater Festival.

Presented in conjunction with Epic Actor’s Workshop, this year’s focus was to bring to light the atrocities committed upon the multitudes of voiceless women of South Asia, and the challenges and conflicts South Asian women face assimilating into American Society and culture.

Rutgers Closes Part of College Ave. For Annual Student Involvement Fair

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers University Student Life, the student-involvement branch of the Rutgers undergraduate community, hosted its annual fall involvement fair on the afternoon of Friday, September 5.

Each year, student organizations table at the fair to recruit new members and make students aware of their services, offering pamphlets, free merchandise, and interactive activities.

NBPD Supervisor Car Involved in Violent Crash on Route 18 Near Raritan Gardens

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–At 11:38pm last night, a marked police vehicle and another vehicle were involved in a bad crash in the city's First Ward that left one person trapped inside a totalled Nissan Altima.

Police radio transmissions suggest the supervisor behind the wheel of NBPD unit #904, a Dodge Charger, and may have been en route to reports of a man with a gun, and subsequently reports of a man with a knife walking around in the Gardens at Raritan apartment complex.

New Brunswick Resident Shot in Walgreens Parking Lot

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–New Brunswick police announced yesterday that they are investigating a shooting that occurred early on Saturday, September 6 near the intersection of Handy Street and Jersey Avenue.

Officers responded to a disturbance call phoned in by a passerby around 2:30 am and shortly afterward, police radio transmissions indicate that shots had been fired.

A 45-year-old New Brunswick resident named Enrique Perez suffered a gunshot wound to his buttock, according to a press statement issued by police.

No Crime Alert After Man Assaulted at Hamilton and High Streets

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Two recent assaults in close proximity have raised questions about when Rutgers University police decide to notify the public of violent crimes near the school's campuses.

On Friday morning, police radio transmissions described that a man was assaulted near the intersection of Hamilton and High Streets, the second assault on the same block in less than a week.

Based on the police radio transmissions, this incident sounded far more serious than the assault that occurred four nights earlier.

Community Gardeners Reap Fruits of Their Labor

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—As the summer draws to a close, families are harvesting the various crops grown at the nine community gardens throughout the city.

Each one part of the New Brunswick Community Garden Coalition, these gardens include a tremendous variety of produce, including many types of peppers, a variety of herbs and beans, lettuces, tomatoes, cucumbers, and even melons. In addition, residents also grow flowers in the gardens.
