260,015 New Jerseyans Signed Up For Healthcare Under Affordable Care Act

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—161,775 state residents signed up for health insurance during the Affordable Care Act's (ACA) open enrollment period, according to an announcement last week.  An additional 98,240 people signed up for Medicare.

"Today's numbers underscore New Jerseyans' desire to access quality, affordable health care coverage for their families," US Congressman Bill Pascrell said in a press release.  "There was a clear need for the ACA and these numbers show that the law is working."

Art Exhibit Has People Asking: Who is This Man?

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Nearly three months after the opening of the Zimmerli Art Museum's "Striking Resemblance: The Changing Art of Portraiture" exhibition, a set of anonymous mid-20th century portraits have fascinated the national artistic community.

Entitled "445 Portraits of a Man," the photographic collection features 445 portraits of one anonymous subject over the course of several decades.

New Brunswick FreshGrocer to Close For Good on May 24

UPDATE (5/8): The Mayor's Office has provided a statement confirming that the store will cease operations on May 24.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Brunswick's new downtown supermarket, theFreshGrocer, will be closing for good just 18 months after opening to the public.

"I can confirm that the store is closing," said Santina Stankevich, a spokesperson for Wakefern, the distributor for the store and owner of the FreshGrocer trademark.

Stankevich said she was not sure when the store would be closing.

Local Pro Soccer Team Honors LeGrand at Rutgers Community Night

PISCATAWAY, NJ–If Eric LeGrand is still feeling upset about Rutgers' recent miscommunication regarding his invitation to speak at the 2014 commencement ceremony, then tonight’s Sky Blue FC benefit match is sure to cheer him up.

The National Women’s Soccer League is comprised of 9 teams, including Sky Blue FC, which plays its home games at Yurcak Field on the Busch campus of Rutgers University.

Fire Director Crashes Into Three Children on Livingston Avenue

UPDATE (10:10PM): This story has been updated to include information from NBC New York and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Brunswick's Fire Director was involved in a car accident that seriously injured three children this afternoon on Livingston Avenue.

The youngest of the children was a six-year-old boy, who was struck along with two 14-year-old girls, one of whom sufferred a broken leg, according to NBC New York.

Third-Graders From New Brunswick Have Fun at Dance Power Performance

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Last month marked the end of a 20-week long educational dance program in the New Brunswick elementary schools called Dance Power.

The program teaches second and third graders the fundamentals and skills of dancing, and students and their families packed the State Theater for its culminating performance, "Waiting in the Wings."

With the theme “Carnival of the Animals,” over 400 third grade students spanning all eight public elementary schools in New Brunswick performed animal-themed dances.
