Daytime Shootout Between Moving Cars on Livingston Av. and Handy St.

UPDATE (5/7): NJ.com has reported that Jerome K. Williams of New Brunswick was the individual arrested.  Police are still seeking another individual who was in the car with him and the as-yet-unidentified occupants of the green Hyundai Santa Fe that was also involved.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police received reports of shots being fired from automobiles in the vicinity of Joyce Kilmer Avenue and Suydam Street at about 12:11 pm this afternoon.

Eric LeGrand Says Rutgers Retracted Offer For Him to Give 2014 Commencement Speech

UPDATE (2:43PM): Rutgers issued a brief announcement afternoon declaring that Eric LeGrand will speak at the commencement ceremony, calling it a "miscommunication" and saying "it was never our intention that Eric would be the only speaker."

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Local hero Eric LeGrand, a Middlesex County native who was paralyzed playing football for Rutgers, says the school invited him to give the 2014 commencement speech before callously retracting the offer.

Jury Rules Against City Hall in Fight Over Proposed Sports Bar, Costing Taxpayers $1.535 Million

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—When a local Bennigan's restaurant and bar went out of business, local bar owner Larry Blatterfein pursued plans to open up a sports bar in its place.

At the time, Blatterfein owned Knight Club, one of the more popular bars on the Easton Avenue corridor.

He said his second proposed establishment, a bar geared toward fans of the New York Yankees, would create 75 jobs and improve the city's tax base.

Under Pressure, Condoleezza Rice Backs Out of Rutgers Graduation Speech

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—After a week of fierce protests against her, former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has decided not to give the commencement address at Rutgers on May 18.

Rice said she was did not want the "distraction" to take away from the commencement ceremony in Piscataway.

"Commencement should be a time of joyous celebration for the graduates and their families. Rutgers' invitation to me to speak has become a distraction for the university community at this very special time."

NBHS Locked Down After Students Take to Hallways to Protest Teachers Being Let Go

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Roughly 100 high school students left class early this morning, and many more wore red clothing to school, to protest the proposed non-renewal of contracts with some of their favorite teachers.

Superintendent Richard Kaplan confirmed that the school was put under "lockdown" for about twenty minutes.

"We did go into a lockdown.  About a hundred youngsters… decided to leave their classes and walk through the hall in a disruptive manner."
