Tabernacle Comedy Show Brings Unique Art Form Underground

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Hub City has a rich underground arts and culture  scene, and is well known for hosting many concerts in the basements of local residents' homes.

The locations are known by the attendees as a "show house" and generally have codenames to keep the actual locations a secret, creating a speakeasy vibe that requires one to be in the know to actually attend an event.

New Comedy Showcase at Tumulty’s Pub

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Unbeknownst to many of the residents of New Brunswick there is a growing underground comedy scene in the Hub City.

For decades, local comedians have made it a habit to work out their sets every Wednesday at the Open Mic Night in the Stress Factory Comedy Club on Church Street, but that venue is far from the only place in town that hosts shows.

Dan Farley and Shawn Barron were inspired to start their own show recently, inspired in part by a series of "speakeasy" comedy shows that take place in residential basements.

Ten Comics Come Together For Popular Monthly Show at Stress Factory

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On Tuesday July 15, comedian Gordon Baker-Bone is hosting "The Big 10 Comedy Show," at New Jersey's most famous comedy club, the Stress Factory in New Brunswick.

The Big 10 Comedy Show costs just $10 but also features ten amazing comics that perform regularly in the New Jersey and New York area. There will also be several guest comedians performing throughout the evening as well.

Thousands Turn Out For Rutgers Big 10 Celebration

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The nation's birthday wasn't the only cause for celebration last week, as some 5,000 people attended a party on the field at Rutgers' football stadium, complete with dramatic video presentations and a fireworks show.

The event generated a lot of buzz with thousands of fans in attendance, including two thousand that registered prior to the event and earned a free beach towel by doing so.
