NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Unbeknownst to many of the residents of New Brunswick there is a growing underground comedy scene in the Hub City.

For decades, local comedians have made it a habit to work out their sets every Wednesday at the Open Mic Night in the Stress Factory Comedy Club on Church Street, but that venue is far from the only place in town that hosts shows.

Dan Farley and Shawn Barron were inspired to start their own show recently, inspired in part by a series of “speakeasy” comedy shows that take place in residential basements.

Farley is the more tenured of the two comedians with over 5 years of comedy experience, helping give him the connections to find good venues in the New Brunswick area.

The comedians reached out to Tumulty’s co-owner Peter Tumulty and the general manager Rick Salfenmoser to propose  their own show in the venue’s large downstairs area.

They got their wish and this Thursday July 31 at 8pm, the first-ever “Colonel Mastodon’s Comedy Showcase” will be held at Tumulty’s.

The name is meant to be funny, but the lineup of comedians is no joke.  For a suggested donation of $3, one can see some of the best comedians from the New Jersey and New York area.

Show producer Dan Farley said, “We felt honored to have Peter and Rick believe in us enough to do a Thursday show. Tumulty’s is a great venue to have our first showcase.”

“If this show goes well we’re going to try to do Colonel Mastodon’s as a monthly event.”

The show will be hosted by two up and coming comics, Shawn Barron and the author of this article.

The rest of the lineup includes Patrick Goldsmith Marlon Dunn, Daniel Speiser, Jessica Sager, Frank Vamos, Daniel Caprio, Matt Nedostup, co-headliner Rob Kornblatt, and the headliner Dan Farley.

Clips of each comedian can be seen online at this website.

Editor’s Note: The author of this article is the host of tonight’s show.
