NJ Health Department Report: Over 2,000 People Living With AIDS or HIV in Middlesex County

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The rates of HIV and AIDS in both New Brunswick and Middlesex County have steadily declined, according to an annual report by the New Jersey Department of Health.

The report stated that, between 1990 and 2013, an estimated 3,200 Middlesex County residents had been diagnosed with AIDS, and an additional 1,064 residents had been diagnosed as having HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Of those, 2,215 passed away, leaving 2,098 residents who live with one of the ailments today, according to the report.

Rutgers Football Team Defeated by Penn State in First Big 10 Game

PISCATAWAY, NJ—In a historic football game between the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Penn State Nittany Lions, Penn State beat Rutgers 13-10 in front of a capacity crowd. 

With 53,774 in attendance, the crowd was the largest in the history of the Rutgers football program, and the game was the first conference game since the school officially joined the Big Ten Athletic Conference.

Governor Christie Joins Mitt Romney in East Brunswick For Birthday Fundraiser

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ–Amidst a celebration of his 52nd birthday, NJ Governor Chris Christie joined former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on stage for a celebratory fundraiser at the East Brunswick Hilton Wednesday evening.

The event was attended by Republicans from across the state, including many candidates and elected officials who also took to the stage to give speeches, as well as members of the general public who could afford the $150 entrance fee.

Rutgers Closes Part of College Ave. For Annual Student Involvement Fair

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers University Student Life, the student-involvement branch of the Rutgers undergraduate community, hosted its annual fall involvement fair on the afternoon of Friday, September 5.

Each year, student organizations table at the fair to recruit new members and make students aware of their services, offering pamphlets, free merchandise, and interactive activities.

George Norcross Ally Joins Rutgers Board of Governors

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Amid a long line of political controversies between State Senate President Steve Sweeney and Rutgers University, the New Jersey Senate confirmed the Governor Chris Christie's appointment of William M. Tambussi to sit on the school's Board of Governors.

Both Sweeney and Tambussi are close allies of George Norcross III, one of the state's most powerful unelected political players.
