Rutgers Football Team Headed to Detroit For Quick Lane Bowl

DETROIT, MI–Rutgers University's football team is bowl-bound for the fourth consecutive year, as the Scarlet Knights will face the University of North Carolina in the first-ever Quick Lane Bowl on December 26.

In their first year since making the switch to the Big Ten athletic conference, Rutgers will once again be playing in a postseason bowl game.

While the stakes are not particularly high in this year's final matchup, the game does provide the team's graduating seniors one more chance to play football on national television.

Stand-Up Comedy Scene Continues to Thrive in Middlesex County

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On Tuesday, December 16, "Colonel Mastodon" will present a stand-up comedy show at George Street Ale House in the heart of New Brunswick's art district.

The show starts at 9pm and tickets will be just $5.  The eclectic group of comics include Stefan Romanyszyn, Marlon Dunn, Jimmie Allinder, Seth-Michael Serrano, Haolun Xu, Patrick Goldsmith, Tommy Brennan and Daniel Wightman.

International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On December 17, the New Jersey Red Umbrella Alliance (NJRUA) will host their first public event dedicated to the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers, inside Christ Church at 5 Paterson Street.

From 6-8:30pm, the event will include a candlelight vigil in honor of sex workers who have experienced violence or have been murdered and three educational and collaborative workshops led by community leaders.

The event aims to raise awareness about the violence that is commonly committed against sex workers.

No One Injured By Gunshots Fired Outside Hamilton Street Bar Shortly After Last Call

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—City police responded to reports of a shooting outside of a bar at the corner of High Street and Hamilton Street, shortly after 2am this morning.

"We got [shell] casings in the roadway here," said an NBPD officer who arrived quickly on scene.

Because the incident occurred along the border between the Fifth and Sixth Wards of the city, just blocks away from the Rutgers campus in a student-dominated neighborhood, Rutgers Police issued a "crime alert," the sixteenth such alert of the semester.

Free Holiday Concert at Public Library Featuring NBHS Orchestra and Band

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick High School Orchestra and Band will be performing a free holiday concert for the community at the city's public library on Monday, December 15 at 4pm.

The program, which was planned by the NBHS Tri-M Music Honors Society officers, will take place in the New Brunswick Free Public Library's Carl T. Valenti Community Room, located at 60 Livingston Avenue.

Judge Sides With Victims in Tracy Morgan Crash, Allowing Lawsuit Against Walmart to Proceed

NEWARK, NJ—Attorneys for entertainer Tracy Morgan were vindicated in court Friday when US District Court Judge Michael Shipp ruled that Morgan's civil case against Walmart can move forward, without waiting for the outcome of a related criminal case.

Morgan's lawyers accused Walmart of engaging in unfair tactics to delay the comedian’s negligence suit against them over a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Cranbury Township.
