Alleged Robbers Captured in Texas, Charged With Crime Spree Targeting Indian-Americans in Middlesex County

NEW BRUNSWICK,NJ—Authorities say that a group of Texas-based robbers responsible for the string of home invasions against Asian-Indian families in Middlesex County made it all the way back to Houston, Texas before being captured by police last week.

The alleged robbers, identified as Chaka Castro, 39, Juan Olaya, 34, Octavius Scott, 22, and Johnisha Williams, 19, will be extradited to New Jersey where they will each be held on $1.25 million bail.

VIDEO: NBPD Dashboard Camera Reveals New Details in Arrest of McKinley School Vice Principal

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Brunswick Police video of the November 21 traffic stop and DWI arrest of McKinley Community School Vice Principal Lester Voorhees shows that he repeatedly mentioned his position to officers who had pulled him over.

"I work at a school.  I'm the Vice Principal," Voorhees told Officers Matt Ganzer and Rodney Tillery two minutes into the stop.

Rutgers MBA Program Incoming Class Will Be First in US Where Females Are The Majority

PISCATAWAY, NJ—Rutgers business school director Sharon Lydon says that the incoming "freshman" MBA class next year will be mostly female, the first time that this has happened.

Further, Rutgers has achieved this distinction ahead of schools that the US News and World Report regards more highly, such as the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and the Harvard program.

Red Light Cameras Officially Taken Offline in New Jersey

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Red light cameras are now a thing of the past in New Jersey, after the state's five-year experimental pilot program came to an end at midnight.

On November 15, the Department of Transportation ordered all municipalities with red light cameras to have them taken offline by midnight on December 16, with "red light photo enforced signs" to be taken down by December 17.

On Verge of Graduation, Rutgers Student From Califon Passes Away

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Michael J. Murray, a Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences student, passed away this weekend, according to Richard L. Edwards, Chancellor of the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus.

"The Rutgers community is saddened by this tragic news, and we offer our thoughts and prayers to Michael’s family and to all his friends," Edwards states in the email.

Michael Murray, a resident of Califon Borough in Hunterdon County, transferred to Rutgers in 2013 from the County College of Morris.

Federal Government Grants Immunity From Legal Claims to J&J and Two Other Ebola Vaccine Manufacturers

WASHINGTON, DC–The federal government has extended liability protection to Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J's) Janssen subsidiary, which is developing an Ebola vaccine candidate with its Danish partner Bavarian Nordic.

The December 9 announcement granting immunity was made by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell, in accordance with the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act of 2005.
