After Legal Challenge From Resident, Judge Orders City of New Brunswick to Stop Enforcing Anti-Panhandling Laws

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A Superior Court judge has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the City of New Brunswick, forcing the city's cops to stop enforcing two ordinances against panhandling.

The decision comes in response to a lawsuit filed by John Fleming, a 50-year-old man who often holds up a sign asking for money on George Street.

"John Fleming may be homeless, but he's not hopeless or helpless in his battle against the begging ban in New Brunswick," said NJTV reporter Michael Hill.

22-Year-Old Rutgers Student Dies After Being Struck by Car in Trenton

TRENTON, NJ—Twenty-two-year-old Rutgers student Billy Roy Ouch was killed after being struck by a 2006 Mazda on Route 129 in his hometown of Trenton.

The incident occurred on Monday, December 22 at approximately 9:15pm, where Ouch appears to have been crossing Route 129 at Lalor Street against the light, according to an article written by Keith Brown of Times of Trenton.

Ouch was pronounced dead at 9:50pm.  There is no information on the driver available at this time.

Armed Robbery Attempt at Central Av. and Prosper St. Causes Another Crime Alert

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department is investigating a robbery that took place near the intersection of Central Avenue and Prosper Streets on Tuesday December 23, shortly before 6:45 p.m.

According to the New Brunswick Police, the victim was a female who is affiliated with Rutgers University. The victim reported being approached by two males. One of the men pulled out a firearm and demanded that the victim to turn over her property.

Man Already in Jail For Other Crimes Found Guilty in Retrial on Sex Assault Charges From 2002

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On December 9, New Brunswick resident Bruce Sterling, age 44, was found guilty of breaking into the Richardson Street home of a 21-year old Rutgers student and sexually assaulting her at gunpoint over 12 years ago.

After deliberating for about two hours over the course of two days, a jury sitting in New Brunswick found Sterling guilty of burglary while armed, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, terroristic threats, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and aggravated assault with a weapon.

Three Masked Men Rob Campus Deli At Gunpoint

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department is looking for the three masked men they say are responsible for a robbery that occurred on Sunday, December 21, at approximately 9:10 PM.

The incident occurred at the Campus Deli convenience store located on 82 Senior Street in New Brunswick.

Three masked perpetrators robbed Campus Deli at gun-point before fleeing the scene. Their location is still unknown at this time.

Fortunately, the victim of this crime was not physically injured.

Pipeline Tears Through Residential Area in Edison to Supply Fracked Gas to New Woodbridge Power Plant

EDISON, NJ—Located just a quarter-mile south of the county's much-touted "greenway," a new natural gas pipeline built by Houston-based U.S. Pipeline (USPL), Inc. is disturbing sixteen acres of land in Edison and Woodbridge.

But it appears the project's supporters may have forgotten the lessons of an infamous and devastating gas explosion that struck Edison twenty years ago, and ignored the spirit of a township ordinance meant to keep pipelines from running near homes and other buildings.

Police Looking For Men Who Robbed and Pistol Whipped Resident

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—City police are investigating a robbery that occurred on Saturday, December 20, at approximately 10:24pm in the parking lot of Hamilton Garden Apartments at 300 Hamilton Street.

The victim reported that during a prearranged meeting he was approached by two male perpetrators that demanded his property then struck him in the face with a firearm.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated by Emergency Medical Services.
