Cyclists and Pedestrians Upset New Route 18 Interchange Will Not Include Sidewalks

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Some people are upset about more than just the traffic jams caused by the continuing re-construction of New Brunswick's main artery, Route 18.

NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is currently working to destroy and replace two three-lane bridges that carry Route 18 over US Highway 1 in New Brunswick.

The northbound bridge is to be replaced by a wider one, as the northbound shoulder on the right of Route 18 will become an active travel lane between Westons Mill Pond and Route 1.

Students Fight to Outlaw Shackling of Pregnant Inmates in New Jersey

PISCATAWAY, NJ—On October 28, volunteers from the Mountain View Project Student Organization (MVP-SO), hosted a demonstration to educate Rutgers students on the dangers of pregnant inmates being shackled before childbirth, during labor, and immediately after childbirth.

During this six-hour demonstration, students wore shackles and costumes to appear pregnant, read narratives from women who have experienced being shackled while pregnant, and collected signatures for petitions that called for the eradication of this practice in New Jersey.

Hundreds of Edison Residents Demand Answers About Home Invasions Targeting Asian Indians

EDISON, NJ—Edison residents came out by the hundreds on November 5, bringing along lots of built up frustration about the recent home invasions and attacks on Asian-American families.

“I am not scared. I am angry. I pay taxes in this town and year after year the same BS happens,” one resident shouted out.

The most recent invasion occurred on October 30, where two masked assailants entered the home, and restrained the the mother, father, and two children with duct tape, while they searched the house for valuables.

Football Loss to Wisconsin Reflects Tough First Season For Rutgers in Big Ten Conference

PISCATAWAY, NJ—When the dust settled, or in the case of the November 1 football game, when the fog cleared, the final score of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights versus the Wisconsin Badgers stood at 37-0.

Although the game sold out at 52,707 tickets, an estimated 20,000 showed up. At halftime, students poured out of the student section, leaving the area practically empty.

The marching band was moved to the student section for the remaining half of the game.

New Millennium Bank Freed From FDIC Consent Order

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–New Millennium Bank announced on October 3 that the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has terminated their consent order which they agreed to with the bank on November 16, 2010.

The recent recapitalization of the city-based bank, in which an investor group raised $16.8 million in new capital for the bank, led to the termination of the consent order.
