Rutgers Professor Famous For Ocean Exploration Passes Away

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Peter Rona, a well-known Rutgers professor who has traveled deep under the ocean's surface, passed away on February 19 at the age of 79 from blood cancer.

Rona was remembered as a frequent traveler aboard submersibles, and as a worker with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), according to fellow professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Ken Miller.

Two People Shot on Seaman Street Near Joyce Kilmer Avenue

UPDATE (7:50pm): This article was updated to include information from police radio transmissions.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police are investigating a shooting that took place around 3:24pm today on Seaman Street between Joyce Kilmer and Railroad Avenues in the city's Fourth Ward.

According to police on scene, there were two people injured, one of them seriously.  Both have been taken to an area hospital.

67 Year-Old City Resident Killed in Downtown Hit-and-Run

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–City police are investigating a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a 67-year-old man sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Bayard Street and Neilson Avenue near the Wolfson Parking Deck. At five AM, New Brunswick police reported that they suspected the man to be dead on arrival of law enforcement.

City police who arrived on the scene reported that the man was unresponsive with no breathing.
