Candidates Scramble to Replace Longtime US Senator in August 13 Primary Elections

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg's death came with nineteen months left in his six-year term, and a controversial decision announced by Governor Chris Christie has acclerated the schedule of a mounting electoral campaign to replace Lautenberg in the Senate.

The late senator passed away just one week ago, but candidates to replace him are required to submit 1,000 signatures from registered members of their political party by today at 4pm.

Over $50,000 Worth of Cocaine Seized by Police in Latest Bust

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—About $55,000 in cash, drugs, and weapons were seized from a New Brunswick man during a drug bust in Franklin last week.

Hugo Manuel Sanchez Luengas, 32, was arrested by police in Franklin Township after authorities received a tip that he would be driving his black SUV to a parking lot on Hamilton Street to deliver a large quantity of cocaine, according to a report on NJ.com.

Two Stabbed at Howard Johnson Hotel on Route 1

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A non-fatal stabbing took place at the Howard Johnson Express Inn in New Brunswick late Friday night.

According to a report on NJ.com, a 23-year-old of Somerset was stabbed in the stomach, while an 18-year-old of North Brunswick suffered a puncture wound to his thigh.

But, according to the report, the two victims gave conflicting accounts of the incident and "couldn't provide a description of the assailant."

Hungarian Festival Attracts Regional Community to New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On June 1, the 38th annual Hungarian Festival occupied Somerset and Plum Streets in the Fifth Ward, in a celebration of traditional Hungarian.

The festival spanned the entire Saturday, bringing together various activities available for the public.

Opening with a parade that travelled along Somerset Street, the festival officially commenced by public benedictions by two pastors from the Hungarian Christian churches located on the same street, and a cultural ambassador from Hungary.

Free “Quick Peek” Developmental Screenings Available For Kids Age 1-5 at Public Library Thursday

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—This Thursday June 6 the Children’s Specialized Hospital will be providing free-of-charge, quick developmental screenings for children ages 1 to 5 years old at the New Brunswick Free Public Library, located at 60 Livingston Avenue.

The screenings, also known as Quick Peek, will be held every 30 minutes from 10am until 7pm.  Experts will be on hand and “sharing valuable resources for parents curious about their child's early development.”
