March and Rally Call For End to Intimate Partner Violence in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK—On Saturday October 18 at 11 am, the New Brunswick Domestic Violence Coalition (NBDVC) is having a rally and march in protest of domestic violence and intimate partner violence.

The rally and march will begin at First Reformed Church on 9 Bayard Street in New Brunswick, the soon-to-be-home for supportive housing of domestic violence victims.

After years of advocacy, the local church has raised the funds to transform its space into a 10-unit supportive housing complex.

Colorful Clothesline Display Draws Attention to Gender-Based Violence at Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ— The Office of Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance (VPVA) at Rutgers University held their 16th annual Clothesline Project on September 18 at Voorhees Mall on College Avenue.

In 1998, the project began with the goal of providing an outlet for survivors of assault to share their experiences, and to reach survivors that did not want to talk to family, friends, or professionals.

Wayans Brothers Perform For Rutgers Students at State Theatre

NEW BRUNSWICK—The Rutgers University Programming Association (RUPA) brought entertainers Shawn and Marlon Wayans to the city's historic State Theatre on Friday September 19 for a special performance.

Marketed as the "Knights of Comedy" Show, RUPA handpicked the Wayans Brothers from a long list of performers provided by Concert Ideas, according to Maria Bayas, RUPA Director in Comedy and Media.

Concert Ideas is “the nation’s largest and most experienced college booking agency,” according to their website.

Feminist Icon Who Went to Rutgers Addresses Rape Culture in Talk at Alma Mater

NEW BRUNSWICK—Rutgers aluma and self-proclaimed “professional feminist” Jessica Valenti visited her alma mater and delivered a lecture on rape culture and positive sexuality Thursday September 17.

Valenti, who was named one of the Guardian’s 100 Most Inspiring Women and founded the popular news website Feministing.com,  spoke to a room full of Rutgers students, alumni, and New Brunswick community members in the Douglass Student Center.
