County Law Enforcement Addresses National TV Audience Regarding Recent Indian-American Home Invasions

EDISON, NJ—Law Enforcement officials addressed the recent home invasions against Asian American families in Middlesex County live on TV Asia.

TV Asia is a nationwide television network that programming the focuses on issues relevant to the Indian community.

The panel of Middlesex law enforcement officials gave brief information about the crimes, delivered safety tips, and a called for a joint effort between the community and the police.

Candlelight Vigil at Rutgers Remembers Those Lost to Overdoses

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers University students and other community members took a moment to remember those who lost their lives due to to addiction at a candlelight vigil on Tuesday October 21, held on the steps of Brower Commons on College Avenue.

The vigil brought together friends and family of those who have died from overdose, to remember their lives and bring awareness to drug abuse and addiction.

Students Fight to Outlaw Shackling of Pregnant Inmates in New Jersey

PISCATAWAY, NJ—On October 28, volunteers from the Mountain View Project Student Organization (MVP-SO), hosted a demonstration to educate Rutgers students on the dangers of pregnant inmates being shackled before childbirth, during labor, and immediately after childbirth.

During this six-hour demonstration, students wore shackles and costumes to appear pregnant, read narratives from women who have experienced being shackled while pregnant, and collected signatures for petitions that called for the eradication of this practice in New Jersey.

Hundreds of Edison Residents Demand Answers About Home Invasions Targeting Asian Indians

EDISON, NJ—Edison residents came out by the hundreds on November 5, bringing along lots of built up frustration about the recent home invasions and attacks on Asian-American families.

“I am not scared. I am angry. I pay taxes in this town and year after year the same BS happens,” one resident shouted out.

The most recent invasion occurred on October 30, where two masked assailants entered the home, and restrained the the mother, father, and two children with duct tape, while they searched the house for valuables.

Comedian Chris Tucker Visits NJ State Theatre in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Comedy star Chris Tucker received a standing ovation after performing to a nearly sold-out crowd at the Hub City's historic State Theatre on Saturday, October 25.

Tucker's films have made him one of the most successful comedic actors of his time.  According to his website, "In 2006 he negotiated an unprecedented $25 million salary to appear in Rush Hour 3, which at the time made him the highest-paid actor in Hollywood."

Hundreds March Against Domestic Violence in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Several hundred community members attended the New Brunswick Domestic Violence Coalition’s (NBDVC) annual rally and march against domestic violence on Saturday, October 18.

The rally began at First Reformed Church on Bayard Street, where Rev. Susan Kramer Mills, who is also the executive director of Town Clock Community Development Corporation, gave tours of the permanent, supportive, and affordable apartments that are currently under construction inside the church.
