Protest at Rutgers Board Shows Support For Part-Time Lecturers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—About 60 Rutgers faculty, students, staff, and alumni gathered outside of the Board of Governors meeting on October 15 to protest the current administrative treatment of part-time lecturers (PTL’s), also known as adjuncts.

The Board of Governors began by going into a closed session meeting, leaving the public outside, protesting loudly before the open session began later that afternoon.

Rutgers Governing Board Approves 2.4% Tuition Increase

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Rutgers Board of Governors unanimously approved today a $3.78 billion operating budget with a 2.4 percent tuition increase, bringing the average tuition cost for the full time Rutgers-New Brunswick undergraduate up by $276.

Last year, a full time Schools of Arts & Sciences student had to pay $10,945, and for the 2015-2016 academic year, that number will increase to $11,217. Part-time undergraduate students will see their tuition go up an average of $9 per credit.

Rutgers Board Approves University-Wide Physical Master Plan

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On June 18, the Rutgers Board of Governors approved "Rutgers 2030," the new physical master plan that sets forth a development strategy for the school's three campuses across the state and the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) program.

According to Rutgers officials, it is “the most comprehensive physical master plan in the university’s history.”

Congressman Speaks with Students at Rutgers About Student Debt Crisis

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On March 30, Congressman Frank Pallone visited the College Avenue campus of Rutgers University to engage in an open discussion with students on the current state of higher education.

Whereas most guest speakers usually stand on stage or behind a podium with a microphone in hand, Pallone opted for a more casual approach, and sat in a circle with the eighteen students and his two staffers.

“The reason I came is because… there is concern in congress over the rising costs of tuition,” said Pallone.

Rutgers President Barchi Addresses Major Issues at RUSA Town Hall

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—President Robert Barchi touched on many hot-button issues in his remarks to the Rutgers University Student Assembly (RUSA) on March 26.

Barchi began with an overview of the physical master plan that was presented at the the last Board of Governors meeting, focusing mainly on transportation and the new construction planned for the College Avenue campus.

First-Ever NJ Students of Color Conference Coming to New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The NJ Students of Color conference, also known as "Living in Color," will be held on Friday, February 27 to March 1 at the Labor Education Center on Cook/Douglass campus of Rutgers University.

“This is a diverse conference with no singular goal,” said Frangy Pozo, one of the main organizers of the event. “But it is largely to unify people of color across New Jersey and to walk away with knowledge of how to work together for each other’s causes.
