“Reclaim Rutgers” Protests Across All Campuses Call For Fair Labor Contracts, Affordable Tuition

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Hundreds of faculty, students, and staff gathered across the Rutgers campuses—all four in New Brunswick, plus Newark and Camden—to protest for fair contracts, and greater communication with the administration.

Including off-campus sites that Rutgers has control over, including its new medical school locations, the AFT-AAUP estimates more than 1,000 individuals took part in the actions Thursday afternoon, in 20 different locations.

Rutgers Football Coach to Average $1.15 Million Per Year After Pay Hike, Become Highest-Paid State Employee

PISCATAWAY, NJ—On October 9, the Rutgers Board of Governors approved an amendment to Head Football Coach Kyle Flood’s employment contract that would significantly increase his salary.

The contract extension, negotiated just two days before his team lost to Penn State in their first Big Ten game, gives Flood two more years and various pay increases.

The deal does not alter Flood's base salary, however it includes additional compensation that would soon make Flood the highest-paid state employee.

Working Without Contracts, Rutgers Faculty and Staff Rally Outside State of the University Address

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The main phrase chanted by protestors outside the College Ave Student Center this Friday was “What do we want? Contracts! When do we want them? Now!”

The faculty contracts expired August 31, and they have not yet settled on a new agreement with an administration that has often been at odds with unions.

Since April, the administration has held seven 2-hour long bargaining sessions, one each in April, May, and June, and two each in July and August.

As New Board Chairman Takes Over at Rutgers, Coalition of Unions and Students Call Out Administration

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Over 200 Rutgers faculty, students, and staff gathered outside of the Board of Governors (BOG) meeting last Thursday at a "Rally For Respect."

Later that day, as expectecd, the board named Greg Brown, an Illinois resident who serves as the CEO of Motorola, as its newest leader.

Brown was instrumental in the failed effort to bring former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to campus for the 2014 commencement, which sparked national controversy.

Rutgers Anti-Sweatshop Activists Pressure University Leaders on Worker Safety

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers University's main administration building, home to President Bob Barchi's office, was locked down Friday morning as activists marched on it  and demanded a meeting with Barchi.

Rutgers United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) led the march down College Avenue, from the Brower Commons Dining Hall towards the Old Queens building to confront Barchi.
