Thousands Run Annual Big Chill 5K Race Through Sixth Ward

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—More than 8,300 participants registered for this year’s 12th Annual Big Chill 5K, the second largest road race in the state.

But the total is expected to reach at least 9,300 when walkers and runners finally line up this morning at 9 a.m. to start the race.

“We typically get 1,000 between Friday and Saturday, so we expect about 500 today to register,” Race Director, Anne Finetto, told New Brunswick Today before the Friday afternoon on-site registraton and packet pick-up at the College Avenue Gym began.

Black Friday Protest at Edison Walmart Draws People From Various Backgrounds, But No Walmart Workers

EDISON, NJ–A Walmart Market Manager, who travels to a variety of different stores, said the gathering of protesters standing outside the South Edison Walmart on Friday morning holding signs such as “Low Low Pay – Just Not OK” or chanting “Go to Costco, don’t shop at Walmart” was just an organization that would like to disrupt everyone’s shopping day.

But outside, demonstrating on a cold fall morning, the group was not made up of any one organization.

Black Friday Protest Planned at Edison Walmart

EDISON, NJ—The Walmart in South Edison, located at 2220 State Route 27, is one of 1,600 across the country where a "Black Friday" protest is planned for November 28 at 9AM.

Workers and supporters are planning to push for a $ 15 per hour wage and consistent full-time work.

Wal-Mart Stores Incorporated is the largest private employer in the United States and has often been central to the debate over proposals to raise the minimum wage.

J&J Facing Talcum Powder Lawsuit After Spouse of Plaintiff Dies From Ovarian Cancer

TRENTON, NJ—Janice Chakalos used Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Baby Powder and Shower to Shower brand of talc powder since childhood without any knowledge of the twenty-four studies linking its use, on the female genital area, to an increased risk of ovarian cancer.

Chakalos died of ovarian cancer in 2012, at the age of 63. In 1982, when she was 33, she was not aware of a key study linking talc powder use on the genital area to a greater risk of ovarian cancer.

Safety Scores Drop For Both Hub City Hospitals

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) and Saint Peter’s University Hospital (SPUH) both declined in ratings on their hospital safety report cards issued this fall.

The Hospital Safety Score, provided as a public service by a national no-nprofit organization, is becoming an important measure of patient safety according to recent articles in The New York Times, and AARP Magazine.
