RWJ Hospital Names Michael Antoniades Executive VP and Chief Operating Officer

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) has named Monroe resident Michael Antoniades as the organization's new Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Antoniades will oversee both the New Brunswick and Somerset campuses, according to a news release. 

Although Antoniades was promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations in 2013, he joined RWJUH in 2011 as Vice President of Operations.

Middlesex Water Warns of Imposters Posing as Company Reps and Robbing Homes

ISELIN, NJ—The Middlesex Water Company is warning customers about a recent string of reported burglaries involving individuals posing as water company employees.

The company is urging their customers to be "on the alert for individuals claiming to be water company representatives."

The company says they recently learned of incidents in its service area, which includes Edison, Metuchen, and Woodbridge.

Report: Income Inequality Rises in NJ as Top-Tier Earners Get Wealthier

EDISON, NJ—A report released by Edison-based Legal Services of New Jersey (LSNJ) found that income inequality has continued to increase in New Jersey, even after the economic recession from 2007-2009.

“Mirroring much highlighted national trends, New Jersey income inequality has worsened markedly since the advent of the new millennium,” says the overview section of the report.

Income inequality is defined as the extent to which income is distributed unevenly among a population, according to inequality.org.

NJ Minimum Wage Hike to Affect 176,000 Workers in Garden State

EDISON, NJ–New Jersey's minimum wage will increased by 1.59%, to $8.38 an hour, in order to keep on pace with inflation on January 1.

On January 1, approximately 176,000 minimum wage workers will see a 1.58% increase in hourly pay.  Minimum wage workers represent five percent of New Jersey's working population.

The rate, which affects all workers except those who are tipped, will be increased to $8.38 an hour, equating to about $5.20 more per 40-hour week.

South Plainfield Company Recalls 10,000 Imported Playpens Due to Strangulation Hazard

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–A manufacturer of baby products with a history of recalls has recalled about 10,000 imported playpens sold by several online retailers including Amazon, Kohl’s, Toy ‘R Us, and Walmart, from March 2010 through January 2014, over a strangulation hazard.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC's) recall notice, no injuries or incidents associated with the $60 playpen have been reported.

Federal Government Grants Immunity From Legal Claims to J&J and Two Other Ebola Vaccine Manufacturers

WASHINGTON, DC–The federal government has extended liability protection to Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J's) Janssen subsidiary, which is developing an Ebola vaccine candidate with its Danish partner Bavarian Nordic.

The December 9 announcement granting immunity was made by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell, in accordance with the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act of 2005.

FDA Upgrades Warning on Fibroid Surgery Tool That J&J Stopped Selling in April

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last month upgraded its April warning regarding a controversial device used in common fibroid surgeries called a laparoscopic power morcellator.

The stronger warning for the drill-like device comes almost six months after Johnson & Johnson (J&J), the world’s largest morcellator manufacturer, voluntarily suspended worldwide sales and distribution of its power morcellators and pulled them from the market.
