67 Year-Old City Resident Killed in Downtown Hit-and-Run

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–City police are investigating a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a 67-year-old man sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Bayard Street and Neilson Avenue near the Wolfson Parking Deck. At five AM, New Brunswick police reported that they suspected the man to be dead on arrival of law enforcement.

City police who arrived on the scene reported that the man was unresponsive with no breathing.

New Brunswick FreshGrocer Owes $784,754 in Back Rent, May Abandon Store

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—As rumors spread that New Brunswick's new downtown supermarket will close its doors for good in a matter of weeks, the market's landlord today filed a court notice saying the store is already far behind on its rent payments.

Officials at the New Brunswick Parking Authority, the owner of the building, confirmed late this evening that the supermarket owes $784,754, the equivalent of nine months, in back rent.  The store has been open for business for just over fifteen months.

Summit Gives Young Professionals Tips for Career Success

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Inside the conference space at the Heldrich Hotel, young professionals from companies such as TD Bank, Johnson & Johnson, and Wells Fargo peered intently at one another.

The speaker, Jennifer Smith, had just asked the group, seated around a conference table, to observe their peer's sitting position.

“The question is, 'What message are you sending'?” said Smith, the founder of Growth Potential Counseling, during her session which focused on body language, gestures, and words.

Senator Booker Speaks at Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Jersey's newest US Senator Cory Booker spoke to a crowd of mostly Rutgers students on Tuesday February 18 in Hickman Hall on the Douglass campus.

The event was hosted by the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers

Senator Booker opened with a 30-minute speech, touching on his early days in politics as a Newark City Councilman, and public war of words with Conan O'Brien.

New Brunswick Opera Singer Performing Free Show in Edison

EDISON, NJ—New Brunswick resident and opera singer Amy Suznovich is throwing a free public concert for veterans at the Veterans Memorial Home at Menlo Park, at 132 Evergreen Road in Edison.

The event, entitled "Amy Suznovich In Concert: A Tribute to the Veterans” is scheduled for Monday, February 24 from 3.30pm-4.30pm.  The "Music Appreciation Hour" event is free and open to the public.

Rutgers Anti-Sweatshop Activists Pressure University Leaders on Worker Safety

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers University's main administration building, home to President Bob Barchi's office, was locked down Friday morning as activists marched on it  and demanded a meeting with Barchi.

Rutgers United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) led the march down College Avenue, from the Brower Commons Dining Hall towards the Old Queens building to confront Barchi.
