New 14-Story Rutgers Apartment Building Set to Open August 28

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers University is on the verge of opening a highrise apartment complex for its students at the intersection of College Avenue and Hamilton Street.

"The Yard," as the developer has called the project, is a 220,000 square foot building that surrounds a small park with a large video screen.

This building will follow in the multi-use style of new apartments on the school's Livingston Campus, by featuring retail and public green space along the ground floor of the development.

Perth Amboy’s Elusive BOE Election Back on For November 8

TRENTON, NJ—It's been hard to keep track of when Perth Amboy has been planning to hold its next school board election, as warring factions within the Bay City fought over the election date during a rollercoaster of a year.

At several points in 2016, Perth Amboy's school district looked like it was going to be among the select few communities in the state with April school elections.

City Man Arrested For Auto Theft, Cops Give No Details of Their Pursuit

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—At some point on Thursday, August 10, somewhere on a three-block stretch of Sandford Street, city police arrested 32-year-old New Brunswick resident Jamaal Edwards on multiple charges.

According to New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) spokesperson Captain JT Miller, the arrest was "in regards to the theft of a motor vehicle on Somerset Street."

Police pursued Edwards in a "high-speed chase," according to one source, and it's not clear how the pursuit came to an end.

New Walgreens Opens in Saint Peter’s University Hospital

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On July 13, the nation's largest pharmacy chain opened a pharmacy on the ground floor of Saint Peter’s University Hospital in an effort to "improve the care of patients when they are discharged."

The new drugstore provides medications for patients upon their discharge and during the course of their hospitalization, thanks to a program that allows for bedside medication delivery.

Key Food Cuts Back on Deliveries After Driver Allegedly Involved in Hit-and-Run

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Key Food supermarket on Kirkpatrick Street in downtown abruptly stopped doing deliveries just eight days after a hit-and-run crash involving one of their vehicles.

Key Food–like most supermarkets in New Brunswick–had offered to drive customers home if they spent at least $50 on groceries.

As NBToday reported in February, the store was using two vans to make over 200 such "deliveries" per week.

NBHA Afectó a Inquilinos con Más de $6,000 en Multas de Parqueo el Año Pasado

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ— En apenas nueve meses, la Autoridad de Vivienda de New Brunswick (NBHA) emitió más de 150 “multas de estacionamiento inapropiadas” sumando un total de $6,300 para los inquilinos de bajos ingresos, en su más antiguo proyecto de vivienda.

En un sistema descubierto por New Brunswick Today, la agencia de vivienda pública de la ciudad, muy frecuentemente cobraba el doble de la cantidad permitida bajo contratos de arrendamiento a inquilinos.
