Valeant Pharmaceuticals Facing Lawsuit Filed by Former Investor Group

TRENTON, NJ–A large mutual-fund group has filed a lawsuit against Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc., alleging the company took part in “a fraudulent scheme” that cost it billions of dollars.

The investment group, T. Rowe Price Inc., which was formerly one of Valeant’s biggest investors, but sold most of its shares in May, is claiming the company’s operating methods exposed it to “massive risks” costing shareholders dearly.

Sky Blue FC Playoff Hopes Are Slim After Loss to Chicago Red Stars

PISCATAWAY, NJ—With over 3,000 in attendance at home which included many girls from the Players Development Academy (PDA), Sky Blue FC (6-6-4) dropped the ball with a 1-3 loss in a crucial match against the visiting Chicago Red Stars (8-4-4).

Sky Blue FC did not pick up where they left off after finishing 3-1 before the four-week break for the Olympics.

The team was playing aggressive and hungry to win, pressuring their opponents with a fierce tenacity to win each challenge and took down the best team in the league.

Eight Individuals and Groups Recognized for Raritan River Stewardship

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–At its eighth annual awards ceremony, the Sustainable Raritan River Initiative and Sustainable River Collaborative recognized eight individuals and groups for their creative and innovative projects aimed at restoring and protecting the Raritan River and its tributaries.

Founded by Rutgers University in 2009, the initiative aims to bring together governments, businesses, scientists, engineers, environmentalists, and community leaders to restore and protect the Raritan River, tributaries, and bay.

New Brunswick Hosting 1st Annual Caribbean Festival

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The city has been hosting many events through out this summer, and the weekend of August 27 is no exception.

On August 27, downtown New Brunswick will host its First Annual Caribbean Festival.

The event will bring Caribbean cultural music, dance and food. from 1pm-6pm on Livingston Avenue in between George Street and New Street.

It's free and open to the public, although there will be vendors selling their merchandice for those who wish to purchase.

Dunellen Board Of Education President Arrested on Charges Of Child Pornography

DUNELLEN, NJ–The president of the Dunellen Board of Education, 67-year-old Phillip C. Heiney, was arrested early on the morning of August 23 for child pornography, according to authorities.

Heiney, who also represents Dunellen's school district on the board of the Educational Services Commission of NJ, faces charges for allegedly distributing child pornography on a peer-to-peer sharing network.

Heiney was charged with second-degree distribution of child pornography and third-degree of possesion of child pornography.

Perth Amboy Man Admits to Homicide, Accepting 30-Year Sentence

PERTH AMBOY, NJ—​On August 17, a Perth Amboy man admitted to fatally stabbing another city resident in October 2014, and agreed to a plea deal that will likely put him behind bars for three decades. 

Wilbert Hernandez, age 36, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, admitting he "fatally stabbed" 35-year-old Ramon Lugo on October 14, 2014, according to a press release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO).
