VIDEO: Embattled NBHA Board Flips Out on New Brunswick Today

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The seven-member board that controls the city's Housing Authority was unusually combative during a February 24 public meeting that was captured on video by New Brunswick Today.

Members of the board repeatedly interrupted this reporter during the "public comment" section of the meeting, raising their voice at times, interrogating this newspaper's videographer, and attempting to pressure this reporter into naming an individual who may be living in public housing illegally.

Crime Alert: One Person Hospitalized After Beating on Frat Row

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Multiple people were beaten up by three men early Saturday morning near the intersection of Mine and Union Streets in the Sixth Ward, according to a Rutgers University crime alert.

The incident occurred on February 27 at approximately 3:30 AM, at the intersection of Mine Street and Union Street.

The victims are "affiliated with the University," according to the alert, and they told police they were approached by three men while walking.  The alert did not say how many victims there were.

Library Celebrates Black History Month With Historical Exhibit

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Inside a stately, four-columned building overlooking Livingston Avenue rests a partial repository of the New Brunswick African-American experience.

The exhibit a the New Brunswick Free Public Library is part of the New Brunswick African-American Heritage Committee’s celebration of Black History Month, which also included a panel discussion on February 21 led by professors, lawyers, and teachers about racism and African American history.

Rutgers Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Host Doubleheader

PISCATAWAY, NJ—Rutgers lacrosse fans will be treated to a double dose of action this weekend, as both the men's and women's teams will play at High Point Solutions Stadium on February 27.

The men's team has been the most pleasant surprise among Rutgers' spring sports. The Scarlet Knights come into the weekend contest at 2-0.

It is a small sample size, but the team has impressed in those two games, and have even received votes in the most recent Inside Lacrosse poll.

New Retail Spot and Two Apartments Approved For Condict Street

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Easton Avenue restaurant district may continue to grow if landlords Elie and Julian Khater take full advantage of his approval granted by the New Brunswick Zoning Board of Adjustment on December 21.

Khater secured variances to allow for 18 Condict Street, a house with a garage on the ground floor, to be replaced by a slightly larger building with two apartments and a ground-floor retail space, good for use as a store or a restaurant.
