Christie Nominates Director of Fracking Company to Rutgers Governing Board

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Governor Chris Christie nominated for Joseph M. Rigby, CEO of Pepco Holdings, a multi-divisional utility company, to be a public member of the powerful Rutgers Board of Governors.

Rigby's company provides electricity to Washington DC and the surrounding Maryland suburbs.

His six-year tenture as CEO, which began in 2009, has been marred with criticism over poor disaster preparedness and mismanagement.

24-Year-Old Woman From New Brunswick Killed in South Brunswick Parking Lot

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO) identified the victim of a fatal shooting in South Brunswick as 24-year-old Alicia Martinez-Izaguirr of New Brunswick.

Martinez-Izaguirr, a Honduran immigrant who called the Hub City home for almost a decade, was appparently killed inside a vehicle parked outside her job at a warehouse at approximately 7 am on June 25.

Notorious Developer Buys Another Piece of Downtown For $1.5 Million

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A limited liability company connected to Boraie Development has purchased a unique maze of connected buildings on Elm Row and Bayard Street for $1.5 million.

According to property records, the prime piece of downtwon real estate includes two mixed-use buildings and 7-bedroom house are assessed at a value of $575,000.

The plot of land also includes some greenspace, and takes up a total of just .296 acres.  For years, the property had been owned by several trusts associated with the Mindel family.

Rutgers Board Approves University-Wide Physical Master Plan

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On June 18, the Rutgers Board of Governors approved "Rutgers 2030," the new physical master plan that sets forth a development strategy for the school's three campuses across the state and the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) program.

According to Rutgers officials, it is “the most comprehensive physical master plan in the university’s history.”

Two Charged with Assaulting NBPD Officers After Shots Fired in Robeson Village

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police requested backup for "crowd control" after they began looking into an incident where multiple gunshots were heard inside the Robeson Village public housing neighborhood, according to police radio transmissions.

According to NBPD Captain JT Miller, city police responded to the area of Gatling Court at about 1:15am on June 21.  But when they did, "a crowd formed and began to taunt the officers."

Someone Claiming to Be Speeding Rutgers EMT Says He is Suspended

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—According to a posting on a legal advice website, the Rutgers student worker who posted videos of himself driving at speeds faster than 140mph on a highway has been suspended.

Rutgers had originally refused to confirm whether or not Christopher Murray worked for the school, and still won't say whether he has been fired, suspended with pay, suspended without pay, or remains on the job.
