New Brunswick Police Looking Into Use Of Body Cameras

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ— The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is looking into the use of wearable "body cameras" for its own police force.

“The police department supports the use of body cameras and is looking into the logistics behind the implementation of body cameras 'department wide,'” said New Brunswick Police Captain J.T. Miller.

“There are several issues which need to be researched and addressed prior to any physical implementation.”

Jersey Shore Burrito Chain Expands to Easton Avenue

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A growing chain of fast-casual burrito restaurants is the latest newcomer to Easton Avenue, a thoroughfare that has seen several new food chains open in recent years. 

Bubbakoo’s Burritos opened in February at 53 Easton Avenue, the longtime home of Cluck-U Chicken and a short-lived dessert shop.

The restaurant serves tailor-made Mexican fare, and is built around a highly customizable menu: the customer chooses the protein and toppings inside any burrito.

St. Peter’s Buildings Will Once Again Serve as School For City Kids

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Superintendent Richard Kaplan confirmed that the school district's growth has led to a change in plans, and the opening of an additional elementary school in September.

Because the district saw 686 more students enrolled in September 2014 than it had been planning for, Kaplan said administrators changed their plans for what do with a former Catholic school campus in the city's Fifth Ward.

Water Director Allegedly Used Slur in Incident That Got Him Demoted

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Former Water Director Alexei Walus is accused of using "inappropriate and derogatory language" on the job, according to the Mayor's Office, and that's why the Mayor says he demoted him.

According to sources, Walus compared the cleanliness of two buildings on the campus of the city's Water Treatment Plant to the difference between one side of the proverbial railroad tracks and "the other side of the tracks on the n****r side of town."

Friends and Family Mourn Loss of Recent Rutgers Graduate

FRANKLIN, NJ—More than 500 people attended a funeral service on May 14 for Christine Huh, a 2014 Rutgers University graduate and the daughter of a pastor at a popular Korean Church.

The funeral was conducted in Korean at the Praise Presbyterian Church on Cedar Grove Lane, where her father Bong Kee Huh leads a sizable congregation.

Mourners who spoke to NJ.com's Dave Hutchinson said that they remembered Huh as a "really happy person" who was "young and talented."

New Honors Dorm Overbooked by Rutgers Officials

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—In the first year of the Rutgers University's "honors college" program, as many as 90 incoming freshmen might not be able to live in the actual Rutgers Honors College building, according to several sources.

The new five-story building, which is slated for completion this summer and will house some 540 students, will not be large enough to accomodate the number of students who confirmed their attendance.
