Theatre Review: Buyer and Cellar, a One-Man Show at George Street Playhouse

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Many theatrical comedies, dramas, and musicals use elaborate staging to set their themes, enhance their moods or help move their plot along.

Jonathan Tolins’ rollicking "Buyer and Cellar" isn’t one of them and the show proves theater at its minimum is often theater at its best.

Relying on almost nothing except the noted directorial prowess of David Saint, New Jersey native John Tartaglia brings us into the world of Alex More.

Man Tasered and Robbed of His iPhone in Second Ward

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—At about 1:15am on March 8, a man was reportedly robbed and assaulted with an unusual weapon, a "taser" stun gun, according to police radio transmissions.

The crime allegedly took place near the intersection of Lee Avenue and Lawrence Street, 

"He was just robbed…  They tased him, assaulted him, took his phone, and then ran.  Lee Avenue towards downtown," said a dispatcher.

INC: The Evolution of the American Menu

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—New Brunswick's newest downtown restuarant and bar, INC American Bar & Kitchen, is just the second eatery in the Mark Daniel Hospitality family.

INC — short for Ingredients N Craft — is nestled alongside the Heldrich Hotel on George Street in New Brunswick, replacing the twice-failed Daryl Wine Bar.

On Friday, February 28, it seemed like most of New Brunswick braved the cold to check out the grand opening night at the new establishment.

Recycling a Hot Topic at City Environmental Commission Meeting

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—With the city's enthusiastic Recycling Coordinator Donna Caputo as their special guest, the Environmental Commission's February meeting focused heavily on recycling.

Not only is the city considering hiring a new recycling contractor, and parting ways with its longtime service provider, the Middlesex County Improvement Authority, but they are also beginning to audit the effectiveness of recycling in the city's public schools.

J&J Loses Its Bid to Buy California-Based Cancer Drugmaker Pharmacyclics

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Johnson & Johnson (J&J), the world’s largest maker of healthcare products, was close to buying Sunnyvale, California-based cancer drugmaker Pharmacyclics, but came up short in a highly competitive bidding war.

On March 4, AbbVie announced it had agreed to buy Pharmacyclics for about $21 billion.

According to the Financial Times, which did note that the talks with J&J "could still fall apart," the J&J offer was expected to value Pharmacyclics near its $17.5 billion market value or at a premium.
