New Brunswick Police Ticket Booklets Found in Public Garbage Can

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—This reporter observed a strange sight on Thursday, June 26: a New Brunswick Police officer throwing out two traffic ticket booklets, including one with two parking tickets that were never filed with the court.

Parked near Old Man Rafferty's on Albany Street, a uniformed New Brunswick police officer was spotted nonchalantly cleaning out the trunk of his unmarked car.

Rock and Roll Documentary Screening at Ale ‘n ‘Wich

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On July 6 at 4pm, there will be a free, exclusive screening of "Paid Driver for Hire: A Rock 'n' Road Pilgrimage" at the Ale N Wich Tavern, located at the  corner of Louis and Hamilton Streets.

The product of a Kickstarter campaign and a cross-country adventure, the Berneziak Films doucmentary celebrates singer-song writer Shane Gooding's life and the independent record stores that give aspiring musicians a place to be heard.

Adult Learning Center Awards 214 High School Degrees

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Public School Adult Learning Center awarded 214 graduates with diplomas at their graduation ceremony on Wednesday, June 25.

The ceremony was held at New Brunswick High School and marked the 34th year that ALC has worked to help adults in the city achieve their education goals.

Among the students, 30 enrolled in the C.A.R.E.S. High School Program (Creating Alternative Routes to Educational Success), which awarded them high school diplomas.

Theatre Review: All My Sons Staged in Freehold

FREEHOLD, NJ—Just because most of the local theaters have finished their 2013-14 season, doesn’t mean there still isn’t quality theatre close to Hub City.

About a half an hour down Route 18 in Freehold is Center Players.  A jewel box theater with a large following also happens to be one of the best-run non-equity theaters in New Jersey, from a business standpoint.

Directed by and starring Anthony Greco as Chris Keller, Arthur Miller’s tragedy All My Sons played to a full house.

Water Director Quits as Cahill Quietly Signs Privatization Agreement

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Mayor James Cahill assumed control of the city's embattled Water Utility this week and is already making controversial changes without consulting City Council members,

Last night's Council agenda did not address a privatization deal that was signed following the unexpected resignation of Water Director Frank Marascia.  Neither was it mentioned until New Brunswick Today asked why Marascia was not at the meeting.

New Hub City Writer’s Group Channels Literary Legends

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Creative writers, rejoice: a new writer’s group launched quietly at Hidden Grounds Café last May, a place for writers to develop their ideas, their talent, and their community.

Hub City Writers (HCW), founded by rising Rutgers senior Caitlyn Gilvary, meets weekly at the popular café on Easton Avenue, and involves a member reading what he or she has written since the previous weeks’ meeting, and then receiving critiques from their creative peers.
