Supper Club Sees the Light of Day at Garden Steak This Weekend

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—For the first time this Sunday, chefs Ben Deutsch, Mike Schultz, and Angel Ortiz are taking over the kitchen at the Spring Street cheesesteak emporium Garden Steak, and slinging pancakes, waffles, and biscuits.

But don't show up expecting your mother's brunch at this popular new gourmet cheeseteak shop, located next to the famous Court Tavern at 9 Spring Street.

Authorities: Woman Fell to Her Death From Plum Street Parking Deck

UPDATE (8:19PM): Authorities have not identified the victim, except to say that she is a 50-year-old woman from Crosswicks, NJ.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—According to the New Brunswick Parking Authority, police are investigating a potential suicide at the 11-story Plum Street Parking Deck.

'There was a body found on the sidewalk early this morning," said NBPA Executive Director Mitch Karon.  "It appears it was a jumper…police conducting an investigation."

Repeatedly Defeated, NJ Senate President Pushes More Questionable Changes to Rutgers Governance

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—NJ Senate President Steve Sweeney was in a unique position of power Monday morning, as he fielded questions about S1860, the controversial bill to expand the Rutgers Board of Governors from 15 to 19 members. 

Despite concerns about its legality, the Senate's Higher Education Committee approved the bill by a 3-2 vote along party lines, with all three Democrats reluctantly siding with Sweeney.

Local Democrats Face Off in Freeholder Election

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Today, June 3, Middlesex County residents will vote in primary elections, but there will be few choices on the ballots for either party.

In the primary election of the Democratic Party, which unaniomously controls the county's Board of Chosen Freeholders, voters will choose between three candidates seeking two open seats on the seven-member board.

Incumbent Freeholders Charles Tomaro and Carol Barrett will be running against political newcomer Jay Mody.

The Dynasty Continues: No One Expected to Run Against 23-Year Incumbent Mayor Jim Cahill

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Mayor Jim Cahill appears poised to continue in office for another four years, without a prominent electoral challenge for the first time in his seven campaigns.

The Middlesex County Division of Elections confirmed this morning that no one has filed petitions to run against Cahill or his running mates, Councilman Kevin Egan and Councilwoman Rebecca Escobar.

Theatre Review: Topical Drama Provides Strong Finish to New Playwright Series

FRANKLIN, NJ—With impartiality, playwright Tiffany L. Wilson conveyed to a pleased audience both sides of the issue of gay marriage and its relationship to people of faith.

"Her Dream My Nightmare," to its credit maintained its dramatic purpose throughout its reading without taking sides or being judgmental from either prospective on this issue.  That makes for clarity and clarity makes for true drama.
