Rutgers Unveils Its First Two 3-D Printing Machines For Student Use

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Students headed to the Fordham Commons area of the Mabel Smith library in Rutgers New Brunswick have been intrigued by the sight of two recently-installed Makerbot 3-D printers.

A sign nearby indicated that the printers would be open to students starting today, Monday April 14.

The attached computers are equipped with software that allow users will to design their own three-dimsenional objects that the printer can produce out of plastic material.

New School Breakfast Program Expanding to Serve More Than 5,000 New Brunswick Students

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Wednesday morning New Brunswick Mayor Jim Cahill ate breakfast with an excited third-grade class at Paul Robeson Community School in the city's Second Ward.

His visit was prompted by the success and expansion of the city’s Breakfast After the Bell initiative that began in September 2013.

Breakfast initiatives have been attempted in city previously, but Breakfast After the Bell seems to be finally getting it right.

Tech Company Started by Rutgers University Alums Sold to Intel For Undisclosed Sum

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Recently, three Rutgers alums have closed a deal from Intel for the acquisition of their creation, a website and program that oversees the administration and smooth operation of events dubbed as "Hackathons".

Founded in October 2011, Hacker League's mission statement summarized their program as "mobilizing a worldwide community of developers-at-large to hack our planet for the better."

Recently-Paroled Man Told Father He Would Kill Himself Shortly Before Leaning Into Train at NB Station

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The man hit by a train at the New Brunswick station on March 25 was paroled from jail just over a month before the fatal incident, according to the New Jersey Department of Corrections (DOC).

Frank Farriella, 50, was serving jail time for making terroristic threats to his family. He was paroled on February 18, according to the DOC.

Only a month later, Farriella leaned over the platform at the New Brunswick station and was struck by an oncoming express train.

Rutgers Philosophy Department Gets Two Big Donations

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Rutgers University's Philosophy Department, on the the school's most highly-regarded departments, will be receiving two gifts totalling $3 million to fund an an endowed chair for the department.

"The University will use the chair to attracted another distinguished philosopher to the department," says a University press release.

$1.5 million was provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the other $1.5 million by an anonymous donor.
