Governor Christie Signs Bill Fining Companies That Sell Unsafe Used Tires

TRENTON, NJ–Governor Chris Christie on August 7 announced his decision to sign legislation that makes it illegal in the Garden State to sell unsafe used tires that pose a risk to motorists.

The bill, A-3896, was first introduced by Assemblywoman Shavonda E. Sumter more than a year ago.

Under the new law, it only takes a single unsafe condition on a tire for a business to be hit with a $500 fine for selling one.

Wells Fargo Enterprise Sued for Overbilling Merchants

NEW YORK, NY–A Wells Fargo Bank partner that provides credit card processing services to merchants nationwide has been served with a lawsuit over the use of misleading sales tactics and overbilling for services, according to Reuters News Service.

The commercial enterprise, Wells Fargo Merchant Services, promised merchants it would offer transparent pricing, but instead charged unauthorized fees disguised with deceptive language in monthly statements, according to the report outlining the pending class action.

Retro Fitness Hires First Chief Operating Officer Amid Rapid Growth

COLTS NECK, NJ–Retro Fitness, the growing NJ-based company, hired its first chief operations officer (COO) recently.

While Retro has grown to 61 locations throughout the Garden State, it's also been busy franchising its “low-cost” gym model in other states as well.

The new COO, former Starbucks executive Mike Rogers, is reportedly a savvy leader who was employed by the coffee giant for two decades.

General Motors Concludes Consent Order with Federal Government

DETROIT, MI—General Motors Co. (GM) said on June 22 that it concluded a three-year consent order with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding vehicle safety issues.

While problems with defective ignition switches have reportedly caused 124 deaths and 275 injuries since GM began a recall in early 2014, the three-year order resolves claims over the timeliness of the recall, among other things.

Californians Admit to ID Theft Scheme Targeting Michaels Customers

NEWARK, NJ—On June 20, 27-year-old Angel Angulo admitted his role in a large-scale conspiracy to steal tens of thousands of credit and debit card numbers from customers at Michaels' art supply stores in several states, including NJ.

The scheme involved swapping out point of sale (POS) terminals at various locations with “counterfeit POS devices” that used “wireless technology” to steal card numbers from customers.

Moe’s Southwest Grill Franchise to Open in East Brunswick This Summer

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ—A new Moe’s Southwest Grill franchise is being built-out on Route 18 North and will open in July, according to a district manager.

“We are opening in July,” said Dominique, a woman whose name and phone number is listed on a help wanted sign and banner at the new fast-casual Mexican restaurant currently under construction.

The business is seeking managers, shift leaders, crew members, cashiers, a [back of house] "prep" worker, and a catering manager, according to the signs.
