Altice Makes Low-Cost Broadband Service Available in Hub City

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ– New Brunswick's main cable provider, Altice USA, is offering eligible families and senior citizens fast internet service for just $15 a month.

As of September, "Economy Internet" low-cost broadband service has been available to new residential customers who qualify for the National School Lunch Program or senior citizens eligible for Supplemental Security Income, announced the company recently.

First Whole Foods Market in County Opens in Metuchen

METUCHEN, NJ–Middlesex County’s first Whole Foods Market will open at 645 Middlesex Avenue in Metuchen on October 11.

As the 18th Whole Foods in New Jersey, the operation is expected to create some 160 local jobs, according to the grocer, which will include a fast casual Tex-Mex restaurant.

The outpost has been slated to open for more than two years, well before the epic news came in June that Amazon.com Inc. agreed to buy the natural foods grocer for $13.7 billion.

J.C. Penney Hoping to Move a Large Volume of Toys Throughout the Year

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ–J.C. Penney is opening toy shops inside all its stores and doubling the assortment available online, the retailer said recently.

The shops, which will appear adjacent to the Disney Collection inside Penney locations, will display toys for kids of all ages including dolls, action figures, racing cars, arts and crafts, board games, plushes and learning sets from brands such as Hasbro, Mattel, Playmobil, and Fisher Price, for instance, said Penney.

J&J Ordered to Hand Over $417 Million in Significant Talc Verdict

LOS ANGELES, CA–On August 21, a 63-year-old woman with terminal ovarian cancer won her lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson (J&J) over claims its talc-based bath products caused her disease.

Eva Echeverria, like many other women currently suing J&J, used common personal hygiene products that contained talc like Johnson’s baby powder and Shower to Shower.

Echeverria was diagnosed with cancer in 2007. Now, a decade later, a jury awarded her $70 million in compensatory damages and $347 million in punitive damages.

Walgreens-Rite Aid Merger Agreement Terminated After FTC Feedback

CAMP HILL, PA—Rite Aid Corporation announced on June 29 that it will sell 2,186 stores to larger competitor Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (WBA), for $5.175 billion in cash in a wide-ranging deal.

Walgreens said it expects the initial closing of the transaction within six months, after which it will begin buying the Rite Aid stores and switch them to Walgreens stores.

The drugstore chain also said it would terminate the merger agreement announced in 2015, which failed to win antitrust approval.
