After 2013 Election Irregularities, Diana Fajardo Decides Not to Seek Full Term on School Board

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Tomorrow at 4pm, a deadline to run in the city's third-ever school board election will pass and so far only one candidate has announced they are running.

Due to a unique situation created by New Brunswick's switch to an elected school board, Diana Fajardo was elected last year in a landslide, but secured only a one-year term.  Typically, terms on the board last three years.

Two People Shot on Seaman Street Near Joyce Kilmer Avenue

UPDATE (7:50pm): This article was updated to include information from police radio transmissions.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police are investigating a shooting that took place around 3:24pm today on Seaman Street between Joyce Kilmer and Railroad Avenues in the city's Fourth Ward.

According to police on scene, there were two people injured, one of them seriously.  Both have been taken to an area hospital.

New Brunswick FreshGrocer Owes $784,754 in Back Rent, May Abandon Store

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—As rumors spread that New Brunswick's new downtown supermarket will close its doors for good in a matter of weeks, the market's landlord today filed a court notice saying the store is already far behind on its rent payments.

Officials at the New Brunswick Parking Authority, the owner of the building, confirmed late this evening that the supermarket owes $784,754, the equivalent of nine months, in back rent.  The store has been open for business for just over fifteen months.
