Activist Fined $500 After Ironic Arrest at Latino Gala

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On the evening of February 18, local activist Carlos Rojas plead guilty to a charge of "disorderly conduct" and paid a fine of $500 at the New Brunswick Municpal Court in downtown.

As we reported in October 2013, Rojas was unexpectedly arrested at the Hyatt Regency Hotel during the 2013 gala for the New Brunswick-based organization Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey (LLA-NJ).

Under New Leadership, NJTransit to Address Super Bowl and Sandy Debacles at Legislative Hearing

TRENTON, NJ–Delays and mishaps, even before the last month's first-ever New Jersey Super Bowl, have called into question whether NJ Transit (NJT) was truly ready to handle an event of such epic proportions.

Now, a legislative committee in Trenton will be investigating this and other perceived failure's of the state's mass transit system over the past several years.

New Brunswick Band Making Big Strides In Los Angeles

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—In late January, a local New Brunswick- based band, Lovelectric, recorded and rubbed elbows with some big industry names in the hopes of propelling their music into the commerical world of movie soundtracks, TV shows, and commercials. 

The band has been working together for around a year under the Lovelectric monacre and is comprised of lead vocalist and guitarist Doug Rockwell, bassist Devin Enright, guitarist and vocalist Jordan Sciabica, and drummer Craig Leibowitz.

Review: New Playwrights Reading Series at Villagers Theater in Somerset

FRANKLIN, NJ—Villagers Theater in Somerset, one of New Jersey premier non-equity theaters, held the thirteenth installment of its "New Playwrights" reading series last month.

The series began in summer of 2001 and was the brainchild of Catherine Rowe Pherson, one of NJ Community Theatre’s most noted leading ladies.  The last three installments have been placed in the very capable hands of theater impresario Lluana Jones.

Employment Discrimination Lawsuit Proceeds Against Rutgers President’s Chief of Staff

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Last April, University President Bob Barchi appointed Gregory Jackson to a newly-created position in his administration: Chief of Staff.

Previously a Rutgers Associate Vice President and Interim Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Academic Affairs, Jackson has served as Barchi's "right hand man" from the beginning of his administration in September 2012.

Two Men Charged with Fatal Shooting on Seaman Street Still At-Large

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Authorities are still searching for New Brunswick residents Jonathan Rodriguez, 21, and Steven Perez, 19, two of the three men charged with the murder of Raheem Fuqua.

Fuqua was fatally shot in front of his house on Seaman Street last Saturday.  The investigation has determined that Fuqua was the intended target of the shooting, which was not a random act.
