Birthday Party Slashing and Stabbing Sends Three to Hospital

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Three men were slashed or stabbed at approximately 2:44 am on April 16 following a birthday party on Delavan Street, according to NJ.com.

The injured partygoers were all members of the same family including two brothers and their father.

One brother was reportedly celebrating his 30th birthday, but ended up taking a family trip to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Two Dead, Three Injured After Minivans Collide in South Amboy

SOUTH AMBOY, NJ—Two men perished and three more injured in a head-on collision that occured in the early morning hours of April 16 on Route 9.

At first, authorities believed that 51-year-old Percell Livingston, of East Orange, was driving the wrong way on the highway when his minivan hit another similar vehicle driven by 31-year-old Miguel Mendoza-Chong, of Perth Amboy.

Under Pressure, County Freeholders Intervene on Proposed Pipeline

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Big steps were made this April in the growing opposition to the Transco natural gas pipeline proposed to be built in Central Jersey.

The Middlesex County Freeholders have officially filed to become intervenors with the company's application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), which will make the final decision about whether or not the pipeline is built.

On April 24, Freeholder Director Ronald Rios released a letter stating the Freeholders would be filing as intervenors in the case.

Probation Officer Takes Plea Deal For Three-Year Jail Bid Over Bribes

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A probation officer who once worked at a New Brunswick courthouse has admitted to taking bribes to ensure that a man was able to complete probation even if he failed drug tests.

The case, State of New Jersey v. Rhonda Battle, was moved to Union County's Superior Court because of her former job in Middlesex County.

Battle, a 48-year-old woman from Roselle, pleaded guilty to a single count of official misconduct, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO).

43rd Annual NJ Folk Festival Brings “Music of The People” to New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Cultural music, food, and crafts brought thousands of spectators to the historic Wood Lawn Mansion estate on Rutgers’ Douglass Campus on Saturday, April 29.

Event coordinators estimated attendance at over 10,000 – bolstered by the coinciding Rutgers Day festivities taking place throughout New Brunswick.

Crowd members perused over 100 handmade craft and food vendors, and enjoyed windy but warm spring weather on the expansive estate lawn.

MCPO: Man Ran Over Passenger Who Left His Car Amid Dispute in Dunellen

DUNELLEN, NJ—A 27-year-old man from this small town has been arrested and charged with intentionally driving his 1999 Chevrolet Lumina into a pedestrian who had just gotten out of the vehicle amid a dispute, according to authorities.

The alleged vehicular assault occurred on Orange Street—just a few blocks from the Dunellen train station—at 10:48pm on April 5.

Police tracked down Eric Locke, a 27-year-old resident of the borough, who they say fled the scene of the crime.
