Candelight Vigil to Honor Survivors of Domestic Violence

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Tonight at 7pm, a local agency will be hosting a Candlelight Vigil to honor those who survived domestic violence in Monument Square Park, located at the corner of George Street and Livingston Avenue.

The vigil will feature survivors and other speakers who will address the public on potential solutions to the epidemic of domestic violence.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  New Brunswick will also be the site of a large march against domestic violence on Saturday October 18.

Department of Public Works Offering Smartphone App to Remind Residents of Garbage and Recycling Days

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On September 26, the City of New Brunswick took one step further into the 21st century with the implementation of the first smartphone application to connect residents with their government in city history.

MyWaste, a free application that lets users check garbage and recycling pick-up days in their zone, and set reminders of upcoming collection days and events, is now available to New Brunswick residents.

The app has several other functions, connecting the public directly with the Department of Public Works.

Deadline to Register to Vote in Upcoming Election is October 14

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Middlesex County Board of Elections is encouraging eligible voters to register to vote and update their information in preparation for the upcoming general election on Tuesday, November 4.

The deadline to update voter information and register to vote is October 14, three weeks before the election.

Voters can check their personal information by visiting the State Division of Elections website or by contacting the Middlesex County Board of Elections.

Rare Strain of Enterovirus Confirmed in Middlesex County Children

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced on October 7 that it had confirmed cases of enterovirus-D68 in a second Middlesex County child, raising the total number of confirmed cases in New Jersey to fourteen.

Confirmed cases of enterovirus-D68 have been reported in Camden, Mercer, Burlington, Sussex, Passaic, Essex, Morris, and Middlesex Counties so far.  All of the cases reported involve children ages 14 and under.

16-Year-Old City Resident Shot at Remsen and Baldwin

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A physical altercation in the city's Second Ward took a turn for the worst yesterday at approximately 7:45pm, leaving a 16-year-old child shot in the shoulder.

Police responded to a home on Hale Street where they found the male victim, who had been shot nearly two blocks away near the intersection of Remsen Avenue and Baldwin Street.

The victim lives in New Brunswick, and attends an an alternative school outside of the city, according to police.
