Controversy Brewing Over Beloved Rutgers Bus Driver Forced to Resign

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A popular bus driver at Rutgers University was recently forced to resign from his position with the school's bus company, but students are speaking out on behalf of the worker.

Stanley McNeil's absence from his usual route has spurred students to organize an online petition calling for his reinstatement that has already garnered more than 4,000 signatures.

New Labor Organizes For Stronger Worker Protections in Hub City

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A local organization is turning up the heat on employers who don't pay their workers, or fail to meet federal minimum wage and overtime standards.

New Labor was founded in 2000 as "an alternative model of worker organization that combines new and existing strategies to improve working conditions and provide a voice for immigrant workers throughout New Jersey."

The Promise Clinic: Healthcare For Adults in Need

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Adults 18 and older who qualify for Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen may be eligible for free healthcare at the Promise Clinic on George Street.

The Homeless Indigent People Health Outreach Project (HIPHOP) Promise Clinic is a volunteer-based student-ran operation providing “community outreach, health promotion, preventitive education, and clinical services” to uninsured clients of Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen.

Johnson & Johnson to Pay $2.2 Billion For Illegally Marketing Anti-Psychotic Drug For Unapproved Uses

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Johnson and Johnson, the pharmaceutical giant based in New Brunswick, will agree to pay $2.2 billion in legal fees to US and state government entities to settle outstanding lawsuits.

The decision has come after a drawn out legal battle over unlawful drug marketing on the part of J&J.

Risperdal, an anti-psychotic drug manufactured by J&J's Jannsen division, had been advertised to treat disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), autism, dementia in the elderly, and pediatric uses for children.

English as a Second Language Classes Offered in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Several English as a Second Language (ESL) conversation groups are available for adults in New Brunswick.

There are both free and paid classes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced English speakers during the day and the evening.  Students can learn practical terms, conversation skills, and more in small groups or one-on-one conversations.

Three New Officers Join Volunteer Auxiliary Police Force

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Three new volunteer offices joined the New Brunswick Auxiliary Police this summer.

Jorge Basilio, 23, Carlos Gomez, and Alejandro Henriquez, 27, graduated from the Middlesex County Auxiliary Police Academy in Edison in June.  There are now ten auxiliary officers in New Brunswick.

"Congratulations to the three New Brunswick residents who graduated from the Auxiliary Police Academy last week!" boasted the city government's Facebook page.
