Religious Leader and Community Organizer Involved in United Nations Passes Away

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Moses Williams, a longtime champion for Black Americans, and people all over the world seeking a more peaceful society, passed away on September 21 at the age of 74.

For four decades, Williams worked with the United Nations (UN) on countless projects, serving as a member of Athletes United for Peace (AUP) and as the Vice Chair of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Deadline to Enter 8th Annual Photo Contest Extended One Week

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Get out your cameras, it’s time again for the New Brunswick Public Library annual photography contest.

This fall, submissions will be accepted up until the deadline of Friday, October 9.  The deadline was extended from its initial date of October 2.

Submitted photos must have been taken between June 1 and October 9.

Free and open to the public, the theme for the contest this year is "Take Your Best Shot," leaving the door wide open for creative submissions.

New Brunswick Man Found Guilty in Retrial on Sex Assault Charges

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) announced that a New Brunswick man has been convicted a second time on charges of breaking into a woman’s home in 2003 and sexually assaulting her.

According to a MCPO Press release, 45-year-old Bruce Sterling was found guilty on September 29 of burglary while armed, aggravated sexual assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and terroristic threats.

Consultor Propone Cuatro Opciones para hacer la Avenida Livingston Mas Segura

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—La Avenida Livingston es conocida por sus mansiones grandes y de lujorosas, muchas de las cuales se han convertido en oficinas profesionales.La avenida tambien es reconocida por ser un camino peligroso para los peatones.

En su mayor parte, la avenida cuenta con cuatro carriles de circulación de automóviles, y dos más carriles para los coches parcados. Aceras de ambos lados son anchas, pero cruzando la calle puede ser difícil porque es 60 pies de distancia de acera a acera.

UPDATE: New Brunswick Ciclovia Cancelled Due to Weather Predictions

UPDATE (10/2): The New Brunswick Police Department announced that the October 4 Ciclovia event has been cancelled due to the predicted weather. 

"It will take place again in the spring," reads the Nixle alert issued by the police department.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On October 4, three miles' worth of New Brunswick streets will be car-free for Ciclovia, a free event that encourages residents and visitors to walk, bike, skateboard, and engage in other physical activities in the streets.

Rutgers Student Government Scuttles Bill Targeting Campus Sexual Assault

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—On September 24, the Rutgers University Student Assembly (RUSA) voted down a bill that would have created a committee specifically to target the problem of campus sexual assualt. 

Had the bill passed, the committee would have centralized sexual assault advocacy efforts, scoping out tighter relationships with the university's Office for Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance, the Rutgers Title IX Office and the annual Take Back the Night March.
