NJ Supreme Court Decision Makes It Easier For Police to Justify Warrantless Vehicle Searches

TRENTON, NJ—The New Jersey Supreme Court handed down a ruling on September 24 that will make it easier for police to search cars without having to first obtain a warrant.

As a result of the 5-2 decision in the case, State v. Witt, New Jersey will revert to standards set in 1981, which would allow the warrantless search of a vehicle if the police had probable cause to believed it contained contraband or evidence of a crime.

Lady Zebras Secure 2-0 Win Over JFK to Lead GMC Gold Division

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–With a chance to take a lead in the Greater Middlesex Conference's gold division, the New Brunswick girls varsity soccer team (4-2-0) came ready with a fire under them in the September 23 game.

The Lady Zebras hosted the visiting John F. Kennedy Mustangs (1-7-0) in an evenly matched game. With tenacious defense played by both sides, the two teams made it difficult to create opportunities to score.

After 15 Months, City Will End Controversial Private Water Deal

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—After 15 months under private control, the city's embattled Water Utility will soon end its relationship with NJ American Water, officials announced on September 16.

New Brunswick Water Utility provides drinking water to residents and businesses in New Brunswick, Milltown, and parts of Franklin Township.

The decision marks a big win for water rights activists and local community organizations that opposed any renewal of the privatization deal, which is set to expire on September 30.

36th Annual Raritan River Festival & Rubber Duck Race

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The Original Raritan River Festival & Rubber Duck Race will be held for the 36th consecutive year this Sunday, September 27, from 12-6pm in Boyd Park.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public rain or shine.

Originally conceived as a celebration of the importance of the Raritan River to New Brunswick, the festival features live music, food, craft vendors, and activities for children.

Tween Library Program Helps Create Lifelong Readers

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—In a meeting room on the side of the children’s room at the New Brunswick Free Public Library, tween librarian Chelsea Woods encourages the participants of her Tween Stories Club to expand their imaginations.

“He might just be a cowboy, or an actor that dresses up,” she says while holding a small figurine of Woody from the Toy Story franchise.

This Tween Stories Club activity focused on story creation, narratives, and character development.
