Free Concerts in Hub City This Weekend Include a Celebration of Oaxacan Culture

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Two free concerts this weekend at the Boyd Park amphitheatre will kick off the second annual Hub City Sounds music, dance, and arts festival.  

The festival is a new annual New Brunswick tradition, spearheaded by the New Brunswick Cultural Center, that features a series of concerts and live performances.  Each of the festival's events in August and September are free and open to the public.

After Two Decades in Same Location, Grease Trucks to Leave Rutgers Lot August 15

UPDATE (8/9): Rutgers has cut down on the number of spaces that will be available to the trucks, and ensured they will no longer be in a group of any more than two trucks.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The end of an era is coming August 15, when Rutgers University will force the five remaining "grease trucks" to vacate a university parking lot that they have made famous with their presence over the past 21 years.

Loaded Handgun Found at Stream Cleanup Near Hamilton Street

FRANKLIN, NJ—A loaded handgun was among the array of items littering the banks of Mile Run Brook, a stream that separates the City of New Brunswick from Somerset County's Franklin Township.

A Highland Park resident volunteering at the clean-up was the first to stumble upon the handgun, which was loaded and cocked.  Both Franklin and New Brunswick police responded to the peaceful situation to take reports.

FreshGrocer Announces Switch to Shop-Rite Distributor

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The city's new 24-hour supermarket is changing distributors already, along with seven other stores currently operating under the same brand name in Pennsylvania and Delaware.

FreshGrocer, a market that opened in November across from the train station, operates in a space leased from the New Brunswick Parking Authority on the ground floor of a 9-story parking garage that also includes a fitness center.
