Cory Booker Wins Primary Election, Both Statewide and in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Newark's Mayor won a decisive victory across the state in today's special primary election for United States Senate.

Cory Booker also bested his three opponents among New Brunswick voters, earning the votes of 764 city residents, nearly half of all of those who voted.

New Brunswick voters largely mirrored the voting patterns of other Democrats statewide, with Frank Pallone receiving an extra boost from the Hub City.  He has represented New Brunswick as a Congressman for two decades.

Ex-Cop Accused of Mishandling 81 Internal Affairs Complaints Gets Two Years Probation

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A former city police officer accused of mishandling 81 internal affairs complaints will not go to jail.

Instead, former head of internal affairs Richard Rowe was sentenced to two years on probation by Judge Bradley Ferencz this morning.  County prosecutor Andrew Carey gave up on prosecuting more serious charges and Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Mannion negotiated the guilty plea.

Shooting, Stabbing and a Brawl Last Saturday at Easton & Bristol

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Five gunshots rang out at the intersection of Easton Avenue and Bristol Street at about 2:42 am the morning of August 4.  But that was just one of several instances of violence in that neighborhood over the course of that night.

A witness told NJ.com there was a brawl that took place an hour earlier in the same vicinity.  And less than an hour after the shooting, a man showed up at St. Peter's University Hospital with a stab wound that he sufferred somewhere on Easton Avenue, according to police radio transmissions.

Rutgers University Closes 98-Year-Old Dormitory on College Avenue

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ— In just one of many major changes happening on a small stretch of College Avenue, Rutgers University opted last month to close Ford Hall, the oldest dormitory on campus, at the end of last month.

"The building is no longer a residence hall," university spokesman EJ Miranda confirmed this week.  "The university is exploring its options regarding its future use."
