Convicted Bank Robbers Sentenced For 2009 Shootout with City Cops

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The three men convicted of robbing a bank and leading police on a dangerous chase in 2009, were sentenced to serve 20 years in prison for the attempted murder of three police officers.

Anthony Peterson, 47, James Holmes, 58, and James King, 56, all from Essex County, pleaded guilty last month to one count of armed robbery, and three counts of attempted murder for firing at the police officers.

Every month the School Board holds a meeting open to the public but the attendance is very low, causing concerns as to whether the residents of New Brunswick are fully informed of the issues going on in their city.

Man Killed in Head-on Crash on Joyce Kilmer Avenue

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Police and firefighters responded to a fatal accident on Joyce Kilmer Avenue Monday night where one man was killed and two others were injured.

At approximately 6:08 p.m., a burgundy Toyota 4-Runner was traveling southbound on Joyce Kilmer Avenue near the intersection with 8th Street when it collided with a silver Toyota 4-Runner traveling northbound on the same street, according to police.

No Crime Alert For Slashing Incident at Easton and Somerset

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Neither city police nor Rutgers University notified the public of an incident where a man was slashed in the chest with a knife in front of the Corner Tavern last Saturday morning.

The crime incident occurred on the corner of Somerset Street and Easton Avenue in New Brunswick at around 2:22 a.m., according to a report by NJ.com's John Clayton.
