Halloween Hit-and-Run Leaves Young Girl and Toddler Injured

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a hit and run crash that injured two young pedestrians on Halloween night.

On October 31, shortly after 6:30pm, a mother and her three children were crossing Livingston Avenue at the intersection of Wellington Place and Lawrence Street when a Toyota Camry struck two of the persons,

The victims were identified as a 14-month-old female toddler that was in her stroller and a 8-year-old girl that was walking with her.

Another Board Member Out at New Brunswick Housing Authority

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Even as top city officials claim the embattled New Brunswick Housing Authority (NBHA) Board of Commissioners does not suffer from "weak memberbership," the agency recently lost another board member and was forced to cancel a public meeting.

At some point in August or September, Anthony Cupano became the third NBHA board member to leave office in just over a year, according to NBHA Executive Director John Clarke.

Ex-Carteret Police Director Avoids Jail After Guilty Plea in DWI Crash

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—A 71-year-old former Carteret Police Director, who only lasted three weeks in the job, agreed to spend the the next three years on probation and never hold a public job again following a DWI arrest.

Mayor Dan Reiman hired Ronald Franz to be police director earlier this year, but Franz only lasted three weeks before getting arrested for eluding police and driving while intoxicated.

Student Organization at Rutgers Planning School Celebrates 10 Years

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–The Bloustein Public Service Association (BPSA) celebrated their 10-year anniversary with a networking event that brought together students, professors and alumni on October 28.

Along with the student organization's 10-year anniversary, the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy is celebrating its 25-year anniversary, while the University is celebrating their 250th.

Edison Man Charged Months After Crash That Killed 93-Year-Old

EDISON, NJ—Authorities announced on October 24 that young man from Edison has been charged with vehicular homicide in a motor vehicle crash that killed 93-year-old Luis Figueroa, also of Edison.

Joseph Petrillo, age 20, was "traveling north at a high rate of speed on Route 27 near the Peterson Avenue intersection in Edison and was unable to stop before striking the victim’s vehicle," according to a statement from the Middlesex County Proseuctor's Office (MCPO).
