HIGHLAND PARK, NJ–On June 11, the Central Jersey Coalition Against Endless War (CJCAEW) will host a film screening and discussion about the Women’s Liberation movement.
This event will be held at the Reformed Church of Highland Park and will start at 7:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public, although donations will be gratefully accepted.
This event is part of a series called “Marc’s Place,” a coffeehouse of music, poetry, and discussion that is held in the Reformed Church of Highland Park in memory of former CJCAEW member Marc Shapiro.
At 7:45, CJCAEW will begin the screening of “She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry.”
This documentary is about the birth of the women’s liberation movement in late 1960’s and onward.
The film covers the birth of organizations such as National Organization for Women (NOW) and the key campaigns of the movement such as fighting for abortion access and equal rights in the workplace.
On the film’s website, “She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry” is described as, “artfully combining dramatizations, performance and archival imagery, the film recounts the stories of women who fought for their own equality, and in the process created a world-wide revolution.”
Light refreshments will be served.
The Central Jersey Coalition Against Endless War describes itself as, “committed to the struggle against the endless, unjust wars waged by the United States, which destroy civil liberties, kill soldiers and civilians, and hugely benefit ‘defense’ [marks in original] contractors and other war profiteers at the expense of the working people of the world.”
CJCAEW started in 2002 and is primarily based in Middlesex County.
