Christie Propone un Recorte de $2.57 Millones al Fondo de Oportunidad Educativa

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – El gobernador de New Jersey Chris Christie ha propuesto un recorte de $2.57 millones al financiamiento del Fondo de Oportunidad Educativa (EOF) de New Jersey para el año fiscal 2017.

El presupuesto para la financiación del EOF en todo el estado pasaría de $41,3 millones a $38,8 millones en el marco de la propuesta, lo que significa una reducción de aproximadamente un 6% del financiamiento.

Middlesex County’s Chief Warrant Officer Suspended For Throwing Something at a Fellow Officer

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Officials confirmed that Candice Burgess, the Chief Warrant Officer at the embattled Middlesex County Sheriff's Department, has been suspended without pay.

According to multiple sources, while inside her Livingston Avenue office, Burgess threw an object–possibly a pen–at a Sergeant in the department.

Sheriff Mildred Scott confirmed the suspension on May 27, but it's not clear when the suspension started, or what the reason was for the suspension.

"The suspension was for 6 days," said Scott.

“College Ave. Mile” Race a No Go This Year in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–What would have been the fifth annual College Ave. Mile road race on Saturday, June 4, is officially cancelled, leaving unanswered questions and surprised runners.

In 2014 the event became an “all-divisions” USATF-NJ championship race and this year it was slated to garner 700 points in the New Balance Grand Prix scoring system for USATF-NJ members competing in the short, one-mile, “Open Championship,” road race.

Hunger Awareness Dinner at Downtown Church

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–A hunger awareness program hosted by New Brunswick-based Christ Church Food Pantry, is a creative take on the classic benefit meal.

The May 28th event, dubbed “Come Dine Below the Line,” marks World Hunger Day and intends to serve a fine meal with deluxe portions using only ingredients traditionally found in food pantries, and on a food pantry budget.

The event will be held at 5 Paterson Street at the Christ Church auditorium between 6 and 8 pm.

County Prosecutor Hides His Wife’s Role at Politically-Connected Firm

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—For the second straight year, Middlesex County's top law enforcement official has hid the fact that his wife works for a politically-connected law firm, omitting the employer's name from certified statements filed with the state.

Andrew Carey was named the Prosecutor for Middlesex County in 2013 by Governor Chris Christie, whom he had worked under in the US Attorney's Office.
