Makeda Ethiopian Restaurant Closes After Many Years of Success on George Street

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Makeda, a popular Ethiopian restaurant located in the heart of downtown New Brunswick since 1996, has closed its doors, which now display an eviction notice.

As of yet, the restaurant’s owner has not given a reason for the closure.  The unique establishment first opened at 335 George Street in 1996, and eventually re-located across the street to 338 George Street.

MCUA Treasurer Admits Stealing $57,000 from Agency That Runs County Landfill and Sewer System

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced on December 9 that Freehold resident Margaret Brennan, age 68, admitted to stealing $57,000 from the Middlesex County Utilities Authority in Sayreville while she was employed there.

Brennan resigned from her Treasurer and Comptroller job on July 1, having worked for the Utilities Authority for 28 years.

The Utilities Authority provides wastewater and solid waste management for most of Middlesex County.

Armed With a Shotgun, Home Invaders Assault Rutgers Student Inside Central Avenue Residence

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a series of robberies, including at least two that took place Monday night into Tuesday morning on opposite sides of the city.

One incident that police said fit a pattern took place on Central Avenue and involved a shotgun.  According to emergency radio transmissions, an ambulance was dispatched to aid one of the victims.

"Be advised, this is the third call in like three days, same description, same area," said one officer over the police radio.
