PERTH AMBOY, NJ–The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) announced charges against Pishoi Bakoom, a 27-year-old Woodbridge resident, whom authorities allege struck a pedestrian on Convery Boulevard on June 24, before fleeing the scene in his 2012 BMW coupe.
The crash occurred near the intersection with Harding Avenue at about 11:11pm, according to a statement released by the MCPO on July 11, nearly three weeks after the incident.
The victim, 57-year-old Perth Amboy resident Jose Magalhaes, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment to multiple injuries and is reportedly in stable condition, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Bakoom was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash after causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, and endangering an injured victim.
New Brunswick Today obtained the MCPO press release detailing the charges despite our removal from the agency’s media list. It is the second time the prosecutor’s office has blacklisted this newspaper for its adversarial coverage.
Bakoom was released after posting $25,000 bail, according to the release.
Detective Jose Pais of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Donald Heck of the MCPO led the investigation.
