NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—An all-male dance troupe based in New Brunswick, 10 Hairy Legs, is having an all-company showcase Saturday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Crossroads Theater in downtown New Brunswick.

Randy James, a lifelong county resident who founded 10 Hairy Legs in 2012, says all the performances “are abstract—there’s no story, there’s no narrative…you’re going to see modern dance like you’ve never seen it before.”

The performance will feature several works, including:

  • David Parker’s “Slapstuck”
  • Sean Curran’s “St. Petersburg Waltz”
  • Randy James’s “Rook”
  • Cleo Mack’s “Bath Tub Trio for Three Men”
  • Claire Porter’s “Interview”
  • Doug Elkins’s “Trouble Will Find Me”

Highlighting different choreographers is important to James. 10 Hairy Legs’s performances consistently feature a diverse range.

James recalls working at Mason Gross School of the Arts and working with four talented male dancers.

“After every rehearsal,” he recalls, “I used to go down to my office and cry because it was so beautiful.”

Working with those dancers was the impetus for forming 10 Hairy Legs, his second dance company.

In the four years since its establishment, 10 Hairy Legs has performed extensively in the New York/New Jersey area, toured in the Cayman Islands and New England, and been broadcast nationally.

The company has been involved in the community, conducting residencies at New Brunswick High School for the past four years.

Tickets for the show are $25 ($20 for group rates, students, children under 18, and those in wheelchairs).

They are available for purchase online now, or at the theater starting at 1:00 p.m. on March 26.

There will also be a silent auction at the event.
